“The Hotel Did Us Proud”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

We booked a hotel quite late on for the 2012 Festival and whilst central we were not impressed. So for 2013 we booked early and treated ourselves to the Missoni based on all the reviews. Well, the massed reviews do not lie and the hotel did us proud. We were there for a week drawn by the Festival and attended four or more events per day so that being right in the centre was a huge advantage. We specifically requested a quiet room and were given a third floor room overlooking the Courtyard which fulfilled our needs. Given that we were there for a reasonable period we could have done with more drawer space but that is a minor criticism. On a positive note, a bulb went in a bedside lamp late one evening and we left it next to the lamp the following morning and it was replaced on our return. To be honest it was probably one if the quietest hotel rooms we have ever stayed in so that we were able to recharge for the following days events. The staff in all parts of the hotel were excellent, friendly and keen to assist when requested. The hotel, particularly at Festival time, is not cheap but you get what you pay for and our needs were well covered. We left Edinburgh after a week of varied entertainment. Will we be back in the City next a festival? You bet, but for two weeks.

What a brilliant vibrant and colourful hotel - loved every minute of it!! Every member of staff we met were friendly and most helpful. The location was idea with food fab. The room was larger than expected, immaculately clean with a fantastic bathroom. As to the reviews that prefer more traditional fayre; do your homework more thoroughly and stay in more appropriate accommodation that meets your needs.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are very quiet.

Stayed 3 nights on two following weekends in August.
Situated right on the royal mile busy with all the fringe festival crowd and attractions, walking distance to the castle, railway and bus station. Ideal location for visiting the city.
Missoni pattern design is seen everywhere in the rooms corridors, lobby which is a bit too much if you don't like it.
Luxurious and interior designer rooms with nespresso machine, Bang and Olufsen Tv and luxurious bathrooms with rain shower etc.
Nice breakfast buffet plus the a la carte menu options.
The staff at the concierge and reception is very kind and helpful.
The only downside is the lobby bar, although it is very popular and busy in the evenings, the design and feel is more like a foyer of a movie theater.
Very busy period in Edinburgh but still very expensive for average 300-350£ per night standard room.

We worried that this place might not be suitable as we were staying with our just-turned-one baby, but it was fantastic. Staff were great, bedroom was comfortable and well kitted out, and the location is ideal for exploring the old town. Would highly recommend it.

A superb hotel, very modern and stylish. Ideally situated for the Fringe and especially for the Tattoo.

Not cheap but marvellous value. The room was well furnished and equiped with splendid views of the Lawnmarket so we could watch some of the street acts.

We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Both were exceptional: service was great and the food absolutely delicious.

The staff were brilliant: friendly and courteous even if their kilts were a tad artistic! We had a problem with our coffee machine which we reported after breakfst and there was someone waiting to fix it when we got back to the room.

Room Tip: It's worth paying a little extra for the "superior" room. You get a great view and the...

I have always avoided hotels in this part of town as I expected it to be very noisy as it is just off The Royal Mile. It was actually a lot more tranquil than I expected. The decoration is different but in reality the rooms are very standard in size.It feels like someone has done as much as they can to change a very standard hotel room. The bathroom worked well, the breakfast was good and the service was also very good. I will consider staying here again dependent on price - not sure I would be happy paying the full rate.

Good quality hotels are usually not drastically different in terms of cleanliness and quality of services. Hotel Missoni easily exceeds the average in this respect. Where it really stands out is how friendly, welcoming and helpful all of the staff are, without exception. It is a great place to stay and we'll be back.

Room Tip: Try to get one over looking the Royal Mile.
