Description: For great food and wine and an old-fashioned good time, you can't go wrong with this delightful and traditional restaurant in Albany Street, Edinburgh. As you enter the dark, seductive dining room – filled with candles and tall palms – it will be a case of love at first sight and we guarantee you'll want to curl up in a corner and stay forever. The cosmopolitan crowd love the cosy, comfortable vibe, and we love the walls decorated with whisky-inspired poetry from a local writer. Signature dishes at The Magnum Restaurant include the rib-eye steak served with pink fir fries; the venison burger with chips cooked in delicious, salty beef dripping; and the tempura Peterhead haddock with lemon tartare and a green pea puree.

First (but certainly not the last) visit the The Magnum in Albany Street, a very short walk from the city centre and the castle area. The.
Busy Saturday in summer we were warmly welcomed immediately by smiling busy staff, shown our table and settled in with menus, drinks list and sipping our chosen wine and people watching the fellow diners with seemingly effortless aplomb. This set the tone for our Magnum Experience and the standard didn't drop throughout the entire evening, despite a packed house in both dining rooms and the bar. The three courses surpassed each other, with all 3 diners expressing excellent results; superb local produce well cooked and beautifully beautifully presented by keen (but not overpowering) informed waiting staff. Not the cheapest in town, but worth every penny.

We will most definitely be back to The Magnum!!!

This is very good restaurant and bar. The menu choice is reasonable with 5-6 options for each course. They are mostly of a Scottish/continental style. All the starters and mains courses were very good and, even though we were a large crowd, arrived promptly. The wine list has a good range of affordable wines. The bar is enjoyable for drink before and/or after your meal. For a pleasant evening meal this is good choice. I will definitely be coming back.

We arrived about 9hrs later than planned due to late planes. The owner of our B&B rec Magnum. Easy walk. Lovely dinner on an amazingly lovely evening for June 2 in Edinburgh.
Dining room was quiet. Beer drinkers were outside. Good value and excellent food. Best of our 3 dinners in Edinburgh.

We visited the Magnum with two other couples
On arrival you are made to feel very welcome in the bar before being shown to your table. A good range of draft beers is available.
Service is efficient and waiting staff are friendly.
The special starter of haggis spring rolls were lovely.
For mains, three of our party had the rib eye steak. It was beautiful. Melt in the mouth stuff.
For pudding sticky toffee pudding and chocolate mousse were great.
A good wine list from which we chose Pinot noir and Sauvignon blanc.
Including tip, fifty pounds a head which was good value for a couple of per dinner drinks, three courses and wine.
Well worth a return visit

A really lovely bar with a really great dining area. The food is very good, the service is spot-on - all in all a really splendid place for an evening out.
We spoke briefly to the owner and it's obvious how this all happens - hard work and dedication to his business. We wish him well!
