The Free Day Tour was very good. It covered the Royal Mile and surrounding area. The idea with the SANDEMANS tours are that you pay what you thought the tour was worth at the end of the tour. The tour guides work freelance and only receive what people pay at the end of the tour.

However, the Castle Tour was actually a waste of money. It cost us £28.00 on the day. We were told by the tour rep that we would avoid 1.5 hour queues if we did the Sandemans New Europe tour. However, when we got to the castle we found that there were no queues and that we could have walked in quite easily. The cost of entry at the gate was £16.00. We could also have rented an audio guide at a cost of £3.50 from the castle and this would have done the job for us in terms of a guided tour, as we had done the Sandemans New Europe Free Edinburgh Tour previously. We found that much of the Edinburgh Castle tour was a repeat of what we saw and learned on the Free Tour. We also found that the tour started too late in the day, and thus didn't have enough time to explore the castle, once the tour was completed. Thus, we were somewhat disappointed with the Edinburgh Castle Tour, and could have saved around £20.00 if we had opted to go to the castle independently and used the castle's own audio guides..

Hi The-Right-Stuff,

thanks for your review, and I'm happy to learn that you enjoyed the Edinburgh Free Tour.

The Castle Tour should not be a repeat of the free tour at all, and we followed the guides on their tours of the castle as a direct result of your feedback, following which we made several changes to ensure that guests on both tours don't unnecessarily overlapping information.

You certainly can pay for your own ticket, (though there often is a queue), and rent an audio guide at your own expense, but we definitely feel that the price of this tour, which includes the entry is great value and well worthwhile.

We look forward to seeing you on another free tour in another city, and hopefully on a select tour too. If there is anything we can do to encourage you to take another select tour and see that these are usually very enjoyable, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via private message.

Mark, Sandemans

I took the Sandemans Spanish tour with guide Eli (if I´m not mistaken). She is the red haired woman from Catalunya, and she is awesome! I did this tours in other cities in Europe but I have to say this one was the best. The city is lovely and the history is very interesting, and our guide told us things and took us to places that otherwise you wouldn´t know. If you are there for a short period of time would recommend you taking this tour, it´s a good way to learn a lot while you tour around one of Europe´s most charming cities.

Participation the free tour gave a much deeper sense of what's going on in Edinburgh, and what has lead to the way things are now. Also wider aspects of Scottish history and future were touched. A good way to get in touch of other solo travellers, as the guides gathered up a bunch for lunch afterwards! And the city itself feels perfect: relaxed, trendy, outdoorsy, full of life!

We were four girls from NEPAL who went for the walking tour on sunday, 21st july. n andy was the tour guide. He was very informative, funny n ahemmm... good looking (distraction many a times ) :)
Unfortunately we got lost during the end of the tour while takin pix at "the birthplace of harry potter" n were not able to say how impressed we were of his knowledge n communication skills n couldn't give a proper gudbye to ANDYYYYYY. :'(
P.s. andy, if u're reading it, it's the girl who asked where the restroom was n u pointed towards "the last drop". Sorry we got lost :-(
U're gud so dnt need to change ur job. Hehe
