I had breakfast with my sister and mother on a Saturday morning, but the place wasn't too busy. However, after ordering at the counter, we received lukewarm tea and then waited about 40 minutes for two breakfast sandwiches and a bowl of porridge to arrive. Considering the simplicity of the meals and the fact that the cafe wasn't crowded, it shouldn't have even taken half that time. Considering the lack of flavor in the food, that it wasn't that warm, and that it was not cheap, I'd miss Cowan and Sons when in Stockbridge.

Had brunch at Cowan and Sons. Food was good; the Scottish butchers breakfast was superb, Great coffee. Less positive points: very cramped layout and small tables (had to move frequently when eating to let people squeeze past); having to order at the till and pay in advance (inconvenient if you would like extra coffees, which involves having to repeat the process); customer service was poor. So, good food but there are other better options in the Stockbridge area.

Best coffee shop in Stockbridge with the yummiest bacon rolls and sausages in the neighbourhood. Casual atmosphere with friendly staff.

I live in the area so frequent many of the local cafes. Cowan & sons has lovely food but the staff really lessen the experience - they can be quite abrupt and unfriendly and I don't find that they are interested in making the dining experience enjoyable.

In particular, the staff often do not abide by the allergen laws - I have an allergy and have had to repeatedly argue with several staff members to see the allergen information for foods. I am usually told they can't guarantee the ingredients and I am never offered further information or an ingredients list unless I push for one. This is against the current legislation protecting those with allergies.

Needed sustenance so called in. Quirky former apothecary.
Staff friendly. Food was excellent and hit the spot. Drinks either coffee or tea again hit the spot.
