When I’m in an up-market restaurant and pay £23 for a grilled sole (whole fish, without sides) I expect a fish knife. I asked the waiter and was told they did not have fish knives. How can you have a whole fish with bones on your menu and not have fish knives. Sure, I can overlook that in a budget restaurant or a pub but not in a place that wants to be upmarket and certainly is when it comes to pricing. I asked the waiter to suggest to the manager that they get some fish knives. Thanks to them being a chain that’s for the HQ in London to decide. Well, I suggest you get in touch with them.

Beautiful Food and drinks as expected, staff exceptional and very attentive. We were in Edinburgh for the last weekend of Christmas markets and enjoyed the beautiful decor of the Ivy also. Only criticism was that out table (for 2) was just inside the door with a door screen just behind me wheich meant it was a little drafty!! Very busy on a Friday night definitely need to book in advance and would definitely recommend

Was disappointed in our early January visit to the Ivy for lunch. Service was very impersonal this time. There was absolutely no conversation from the new? waiting staff who seemed very dry.

We started with the pate (delicious as usual) & asked for the prawn tempura dish without the squid. The 6 prawns were so skinny that there was hardly any eating in them which was a shame & not cheap at £8+.

The rib eye steak was not nearly as tasty & tender as usual but the chicken milanese was very good. The rib eye is around £40 with a sauce & fries on the side so not cheap. We then shared a rhum baba, delicous but steep at £8+.

All in all, after service was added our lunch bill was £127. Very steep for some disappointing dishes & service that was not the usual Ivy standard. Even thought about asking for the service charge to be removed which is a first for us.

Think it might be a while before we return & things might have returned to normal.

The food and service was great here. Only small downside was that we were sat right near the window and the air con was just blowing on us all night. Big thanks to Dawid our waiter for his attentiveness.
