“Left hungry!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

Ordered starters and mains and had a drink while waiting for these to arrive. After about 45 minutes and noticing that other diners who arrived after us were being served, I asked another waitress about our order. She seemed surprised that we had ordered as there was nothing in the system. She then confirmed that the earlier waitress may have taken our order but she hadn't put it through to the kitchen. Unfortunately there was a problem in the kitchen and no further food was being served that night. They did pay for our drinks and offer us another round plus a voucher but we declined. To be fair, it wasn't the fault of the second waitress and we ended up going to the Japanese around the corner. Poor staff service though.

“BURNT OFFERINGS”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013 via mobile

We nipped in for a drink to get out of the snow storm. The restaurant is on the left and a small bar area on the right. We sat in the bar area and ordered a drink. We decided to have a plate of pulled beef nachos between us.
A waitress brought us some cutlery and said your Haggis nachos will be out shortly. We told her it was beef not haggis. The waitress said thats what she meant to say.
FORTY MINUTES later we got our pulled beef nachos. They HAD obviously made a mistake and made haggis nachos. What they had done was just swap the haggis with beef and reheated it to the point that the cheese was like lava rock. We all just looked at each other speechless.
I find it hard to believe a chef can send anything like that out to a customer.
We sent it back. We decided not to chance eating another one and got our money back then left. They did us a favour. We walked up the road and ate at the Doctors pub which was YUMMY.

“Worth Waiting For? Not Sure.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

Saw notice outside this nice little pub advertising Burns Night offer of three course meal including a glass of whisky to celebrate Burns Night for £14.95 Thought it was a good deal so went inside to book a table for the following night. Informed that we didn't have to book. Went the following night and the place was heaving. Asked how long we would have to wait for a table and was told about 40 minutes. When a table became vacant, we ordered drinks and food. We waited an hour and we still hadn't received our starters. My partner asked the barman what had happened to our food and he said he would find out for us. He never returned but continued to serve drinks behind the bar. When our waitress came by we asked her and she said it would be ready in a couple of minutes. We were about to walk out when it arrived. The meal was really nice but I'm not sure it was worth waiting all this time for. Being English we thought that any bar in Scotland advertising Burns Night would have had some sort of entertainment on to celebrate this great occasion. We were wrong. We could have visited many places south of the border that would have had a better atmosphere than this bar/restaurant. Edinburgh is a beautiful place but I don't think I'd go to Greyfriars Bobby again.

“overpriced, below average pub grub”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2013

food was grossly overpriced and of poor quality. The line caught cod was dry and actually had the taste and texture of cheap frozen fish!! My partner asked for his fillet steak to be cooked 'well done'....it was cremated and tasted only of charcoal - at £19.95 one would hope the chef could actually produce a 'well done' steak without it looking like a lump of lava rock!! Beware also your server asking if you would like your meat/fish with salad on the side ... they will charge you a cheekly £2+ for a small bowl of soggy lettuce, onion and basil swimming in olive oil ... paying for a salad you have chosen from the menu is one thing..having it sneaked onto your bill when you have been let to believe its include is, i feel, rather underhanded and i wonder if this is a ploy by the pub chain to encourage staff to add some commission to their wages! There are lots of pubs and restaurants around the area which serve a much better standard of food at more realistic prices (it is just pub grub after all) ... this establishment cashes in on its proximity to Greyfriars Bobby's statue and they need to up their game if they are to produce food comensurate with the prices they are charging. One positive point though...our server was enthusiastic, attentive and super friendly.
