Description: Est 1820 Edinburgh's second oldest pub rests in the building built in 1590 that was once used as a Police cell, prison and courthouse, it has seen the imprisonment of the covenanters, daring escapes, and warlocks exorcised Now a great pub, doing amazing Scottish food, from Haggis, (we breed our own) to traditional Fish and Chips. All can be washed down with some of the Caledonian Brewery's famous ales, or a fine wee dram of malt whisky.

Only stopped in here for a quick drink after climbing Arthur's seat, nice quirky place with a bit of character. Liked the multitude of flags hanging on the ceiling to give it a nice welcoming feel to the place.

Stopped in for lunch after a morning walking around old town. We got great food and service. The atmosphere and history within the pub make it a great place to to relax and recharge.

Wen there for lunch and agreed it was away from the hustle and bustle of the Royal Mile. I had macaroni cheese which started off ok but as the water from th pasta started to come out ended in pasta in a thin cheesy liquid. Probably because the cheese sauce was prepared seperately and boiled pasta than added but not drained well enough. Server was excellent and we were made very welcome. Pity the running sauce let them down, but I would go back and give it another try.

The food here was great and the staff was wonderful. We didn't know which kinds of whiskey to try so we went on their recommendations which were great. Loved the atmosphere and the location to shops and attractions.

Stopped in here with the family for a pint. Great taste of Scotland. Nice to get away from some of the royal mile hustle and bustle a few blocks away. Friendly servers
