Stayed for one night with my husband and our family for my Dads 60th birthday. The hotel was very central, a few minutes walk to the Royal Mile and Princess street.

First impressions was that it was absolutely stunning inside, I loved all the little details, the relaxing comfortable lounges, the whisky room, wine tasting room, little areas to sit and relax with a paper, a cozy fire, an outside area to enjoy a drink in warmer months. Everywhere you went in the hotel you could see over to another lounge, or area. It was decorated beautifully for christmas, lots of twinkling lights, and decorations (but not overboard) a real cozy feel and very Scottish.

Our room was very large, with a large comfortable immaculately presented bed, clean crisp bed linen, large wardrobe, tv. Bathroom was sparkling clean, and the shower was great.

The service we received was very polite and helpful.

Breakfast the following morning had a great selection, and a lovely quiet breakfast room and good service.

My only two small complaints (but not showstoppers) would be that my husband and mothers full english breakfast was luke warm and not great, as if it had been left out and forgotten about (however mine was very good) and the shower curtain in our en suite was a bit mouldy (however we didn't have to use it as it was a huge open shower with sloped floor) so should be replaced, as the rest of the room/bathroom was immaculate.

Overall a fabulous stay, would recommend to anyone, and beautiful for a christmas retreat!

A lovely hotel with incredibly unique charm - all of the rooms were beautiifuly furnished, and it felt much more homely than othe hotels (even very nice ones) that I've been to. Well located just off Teviot Place, a short walk from the Royal Mile and Princes Street. Service was excellent and the staff were all very prepared to go the extra mile to make sure you had a great stay - my only regret was that we only stayed a night! A treat for business travel, but this would be ideal for a romantic trip away!

We stayed in a large suite room as part of the Sunday offer with a meal in the Bistro. The room was beautiful and luxurious and well paying for the upgrade. Lovely king size bed, roll top bath, monsoon shower, lounge area which all made the stay very relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially as we arrived very early and left our luggage with the reception and when we returned the bags were already in our room which is a nice touch.
The hotel is well decorated through out with plenty of sitting areas for a quiet drink. The location of the hotel is excellent for walking to all the sights of Edinburgh.
We will definitely stay again when we return to Edinburgh.

Stayed here as a birthday surprise in September, and what a great stay it was

From checking in with the super friendly staff, we were shown to our room, Dom Pal, on the top floor, of the old part of the building.

It was fab! Nestled in the eves, with a roll top bath in the room, and a walk in shower off to the side. The bed was AMAZINGLY comfortable too.

We went out for the day, and on our return a bottle of pre-ordered champagne was on ice (which was free with an online voucher), but what made it was a note wishing me a happy birthday. This hadn't been asked for, or prompted, and was a thoughtful touch from the staff.

One point to note, is that the room/hotel may have a ghost as the shower seemed to drip excessively/turn on, in the night, even though the tap was fully off. Spooky!! It didn't spoil our amazing stay!

Only 5 minutes from Royal Mile, maybe 10 from the Castle, close to Greyfriars Bobby and cheek by jowl with the Museum of Scotland in the Old Town, so very well located.
Pleasant double room on the first floor overlooking the entrance courtyard, but the gloomy bathroom fairy has visited ; battleship grey everywhere. Good overhead shower, but taps from a bygone age. Under-floor heating in constant operation, towel rail always blazing hot.
Service in Dining Room very slow, particularly when in a large company for dinner. Similarly, breakfast service on second morning, when eggs which were ordered soft-boiled were delivered hard-boiled. Not good enough at these prices.
At check-out, I received an explanation about the "supplement" which applied because of the breakfast arrangements. I didn't book the room, so I wasn't aware, but at these prices, I don't expect to have to pay a supplement because of what I had or didn't have for breakfast.
Absolutely no complaints about the front-of-house staff. And, the room TV is huge.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review of Hotel du Vin Edinburgh. I am sorry to read you did not have an amazing time with us and your feedback is very important to us, so we can make amends on our service delivery.

All our rooms are tastefully decorated and match those throughout the brand. During the Autumn and Winter, we do tend to turn on our towel heaters and underfloor heating in the bathrooms for our guests comfort, although this is something we can adjust should a guest request them to be turned off.

Thank you for your feedback and I do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again in the near future.

Have just returned from the Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh. The hotel itself was easy to access both on foot and by cab from the station and is in a great area of the city near the university which offers some slightly alternative pubs and resturants and houses some quirky shops including a lovely vintage clothing store, Sandy Bells Pub, and Greyfriars art shop all within 50 yards of the hotel). It has been renovated from a former asylum which adds a quirkiness to the building. The decor was lovely and had been sympathetically restored with an eye for the contemporary and was very clean. Our room, a superior, was beautifully decorated, but here I have a couple of minor niggles nothing that affected our stay but enough to make me mention them and hence my reason for not providing the hotel with five stars. It was a lack of consideration in the overall design about how guests use the facilities that let it down. The light switches were sited under the TV for the bathroom - not easy to access in the middle of the night and the dimmer switch top fell off in my hand. The towel rail was in the loo (the bath and shower sited in the bedroom as an open plan feature which looked wonderful and the bath was great - very long, we are both quite tall) but, while hubby was in the separate sink/loo room, I was unable to access a fresh towel when I was in the shower. It would have been better if there was a towel rail or at least a hook near the shower bath area. I also found the very efficient, but annoying shower head frustrating. I have long hair and don't wash it every day. I was unable to adjust the shower head - obviously no woman was involved in the design of this! The shower cap provided by the hotel was, quite frankly useless as the jet from the shower was very strong - there was no way you could adjust the height or jet of the water. There were no draws in the room apart from two very small bedside tables. A draw section in the wardrobe would have been very useful. The mirror was sited by the exit door - it would have been much easier to use if it had been by the wardrobe! Finally, our breakfast was included in the overall price- thank goodness, because the choice of fare available was not great in the continental section- the cooked was poor in terms of portion size and the service was very very slow indeed. I suggest that the management pay a visit to the Nira Caledonia in the New Town and have a look at their breakfast offerings which are substantially better than The Hotel du Vin. These minor 'niggles' were not serious but paying some attention to 'the detail' makes for a much more enjoyable stay in what is generally a very nice, relaxed and friendly hotel.

Very central in Edinburgh. We had a lovely stay here last night. Liked all the different seating areas and the outside Cigar Bothy is lovely. It looks good and has a heater so even if you are not a smoker it's a nice place to sit. The staff were friendly and sorted out a problem with the bill efficiently. The dinner and breakfast were very nice, lovely food and good service.
