I booked this as a birthday treat for my husband and we both really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is literally 5 minutes walk from Edinburgh Waverley Station and hotel staff were very welcoming. Room was nice with comfy beds and crisp linen. Bathroom with walk in shower and nice big bath were spotless and bath towels beautifully white and fluffy. Full Scottish breakfast on Saturday was a bit of a let down as scrambled eggs were cold and the rest of it just about warm. I did tell the waitress and she offered to replace the eggs but we wanted to get out early so declined. Next morning, the restaurant was very busy and we had to ask twice for fresh toast and again the food was not as hot as it should have been.
Having said this I would not be put off staying here again by this...it was just a small blip.
This was my husbands first trip to Scotland and he loved it. Edinburgh streets are clean and litter free and the Castle and Royal yacht are well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ours was 513, on ground level which was great as my husband is a smoker and only had to walk along t...

We stayed here for two nights with our two children - 5 & 8. We had a family room on the ninth floor which was great; good size with a really good quality sofa bed for the kids. Lovely bathroom with a walk in shower and deep double ended bath. Big bathrobes, towels and Elemis goodies. TV and DVD player (Bose) and a Nespresso maker. The hotel has a small DVD library.

Great service - really friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was very good.

Excellent location - two/three minutes from the Carlton entrance/exit of Waverley Station and maybe five minutes to St Andrews Square.

Didn't use the pool or spa but it all looked good.

Would certainly go back.

I often stay at the Apex properties when in Embra for their convenient location, the Apex Waterloo is a bit more expensive than the others but quieter as you don't have the hen or stag parties that you'll get in Grassmarket, but its still only a 5 min walk from Grassmarket. That said its not exactly good value for money, just very clean, convenient, and comfortable. Breakfast is pricey so get a B&B rate if possible.

Had a fab girly break in the Apex Waterloo Place. Loved the modern but classy decor. Reception staff very friendly and helpfull. Bedrooms are spacious and clean, with a huge tv and beds extremely comfy. The bathroom is decorated lovely, has a walk in shower, a big bath, and Elemis products.
Breakfast was tasty with plenty to choose from. Dinning room very busy, but plenty staff who were very efficient. There is also a nice lounge bar to chill in after a busy day out.
Leisure area is nice, but a bit small, also I would have liked a jacuzzi! Wouldnt choose this hotel for the leisure facilities.
Hotel is in a great location, central but quiet, just minutes from Waverly train station.
Would be very happy to stay here again and to recommend it to friends.
Well done Apex having decent friendly staff.

Room Tip: choose 5th floor of higher

The Apex Waterloo Place is a bit of a surprise - entering from Waterloo Place you don't immediately realise that you are actually on the 5th floor, and the hotel drops down below to the level of Waverly Station, but also climbs up the hillside. It is surprisingly large.
Charming and helpful reception staff greet you and ensure you understand the layout and facilities.
The rooms, whilst a little dark, are modern and stylish. The TV is huge and has a varied menu of channels available. The free WiFi was achieving over 14Mbps so was ideal for watching additional channels on my iPad.
Rooms on the lower floors on the west side can get a little noisy when a nearby club closes, but in general I have not found it troublesome.
The restaurant has very good reputation, though I have only used it for the (pricey) breakfast. Certainly, if the quality of of breakfast is an indication, I would expect the reputation to be accurate.

The hotel is beautifully situated at one end of Princes Street. This means that it is pretty central for all the Edinburgh sites and attractions.

Recommended.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the higher floors.

This hotel is great. Good sized bedrooms with free wifi both in the lobby and in all the rooms. The bed was very comfortable with comfortable pillows and duvet.

The food in Elliotts was also great and appropriately priced in comparison with the rest of Edinburgh. I recommend the ribeye steak which was delicious. The breakfast was also good, the eggs benedict was great as was the full breakfast with haggis.

The only reason the hotel wasn't excellent is that there were some broken items in my room (817). The phone by the bed didn't work, there was another but it shows they are not checked. Also we ran out of toilet roll as only a small amount was provided and the windows don't open, not even a little.

The above are very small easily resolved issues but show that it's not quite perfect. I would visit again though.

We stayed for 2 nights in October. The location is superb, only 10 mins walk to the Royal Mile. The checking staff were excellent, really welcoming and provided loads of information about the city centre. We were celebrating our honeymoon in Edinburgh and we were given an upgrade to a suite. The room was superb - especially the bathroom! Breakfast selection was good, however the table service could be improved. We were offered coffee/toast to start but after 10mins waiting, had to ask again. Also, when bringing the food out some of the staff were getting tables mixed up. That's the only negative comment on what was a really great stay.
The decor of the hotel is quite modern, may not be to everyone's taste, but we thought it was good. Very much like the hotels you would expect on continental Europe.
All the staff were very attentive and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
