A lovely restaurant, very intimate. The owner/chef explains the menu in tantalizing detail. Very enjoyable.

I love Rafael's. I have been a couple of times. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed - once you are in, you don't get rushed out until you are ready to leave. The menu comes on a blackboard and is explained by the friendly waiting staff. The food is fresh and the choice is great - there is always something a little different to choose each time. It is great value too - around £26 for three courses.

Rafael always comes out to say hello and have a chat and remembers regular visitors. He is a fab character.

One of my favourite Edinburgh restaurants - highly recommended

My friend was visiting from London and I really wanted to take her somewhere with character, good food and unique, Rafael's fits the bill.

The owner is also the chef and is the most welcoming of all chef's who really cares whether you enjoy your visit, food and service. He comes out to say hello to everyone individually, will explain the menu in full, recommend wines but most importantly how he cooks the food. The waiting staff are really friendly and genuinely Spanish.

It is a small restaurant with crazy decoration but do not underestimate the quality of this restaurant, it is top notch with amazing flavour in the food and great wines to match.

My friend had Confit Duck, which can sometimes be salty in other restaurants, but this just had a crisp skin with melt in the mouth juicy duck. I had fillet of lamb in a redcurrant and mint jus cooked nice and pink accompanied by fresh vegetables, again cooked perfectly with a good balance of seasoning.

Another wonderful experience shared with a friend, this still remains my favourite restaurant.

This restaurant does everything right: the warm greeting at the door, the cosy, candlelit room, the attentive service, and the wonderful, glorious food. It's been one of the best dining experience I have had anywhere in the world.
