Wallace's Arthouse Scotland
Ranked #157 of 394 Edinburgh B&B and Inns

Wallace and his nicely designed B&B go together like tea and biscuits. Together, they just click. Wallace is a charming gent who, upon your arrival, is ready to welcome you with a glass of red or prosecco. He then makes sure to make you feel comfortable. Armed with interesting stories and not shy, he makes breakfast interesting over a choice of fine breads, cereals, jams and coffee. His location in Leith is great - a short walk from the fine dining institutions of that area; walk to Old Town is about 25 minutes. The little bricks and bracks about his home are nice and collected from various parts of the world.

What can I say about Wallace that hasn't already been said? He dealt with my plethora of detailed queries before arrival, he recommended perrrrfect places for lunch and dinner...he was convivial, utterly charming - even more so once he overcame his shyness :). The large bed was beautifully adorned, the room charming and elegant, the shower room was bijou but pefectly formed with superb lighting and more mirrors than a girl could possibly need... We hope to return again one day....

After a late change in our circumstances meant a change to our wedding location from Santa Barbara to Edinburgh, we needed to find somewhere perfect to stay before our wedding day and subsequent few days. We wanted something a little bit different, somewhere unique and bespoke and relatively small, a bolt-hole where we could get ready for our big day. We could not have done better than Wallace's! Even before we arrived, Wallace could not have been more helpful - putting us in touch with a photographer and hair stylist, and booking restaurants for us, as well as giving us advice on places to visit whilst we were in Edinburgh.

On our arrival after a long drive, Wallace was the perfect host, helping us to our beautiful room and welcoming us with a glass of wine. As others have said, the rooms are large and well appointed, with a very comfortable bed, super luxurious bed linen and excellent bathroom. As the Arthouse is on a main road, there was some road noise in the morning, but this did not detract from the quality of the stay in any way whatsoever.

On the morning of the wedding, it was almost like staying with an old friend as Wallace made our breakfast and helped us get ready. Wallace is very knowledgeable about Edinburgh and Leith, and has a fund of interesting stories but was never intrusive. He truly is all you could ask for as a host.

The ArtHouse is perfectly located in Leith, easy and free to park and whilst it's a little bit away from the obvious tourist spots of Edinburgh, they are still within easy reach. We took the bus to Edinburgh which took around 15 mins and was very easy to navigate. It's also very close to a mix of restaurants and pubs on the Shore. We can recommend Wisharts, Fishers and Nobles (which is a beautifully restored pub directly opposite Wallace's).

All in all, we had a magical three days in Edinburgh, which was due in no small part to Wallace and his ArtHouse. We cannot recommend Wallace's ArtHouse enough and we really hope to be back sooner rather than later.

I found Wallace through a magazine article on the Art House and decided to visit rather than book into an hotel. What an inspired decision! The Art House is comfortable and unique, a trawl through Wallace's own life and loves as a global traveller and career as a designer. He directed us to a fantastic local fish restaurant (one of 57 in the locality!) and entertained us without being at all intrusive. Continental breakfast was served at our requested time with some particularly interesting local breads. Fantastic!!

Room Tip: Both rooms are beatifully appointed, spacious and comfortable with little personal treasures and pho...

My husband and I took my parents to Edinburgh for the weekend and we stayed at Wallace's. He was welcoming and interesting. He made our visit to Edinburgh so much fun! Our rooms were spacious and decorated with fresh flowers and chocolates in the mornings. Showers, beds, books in the rooms, linens and every detail of the rooms were well considered and well looked after. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with local breads and juices. Great conversation, great food- Wallace was one of our main highlights during the trip. We cannot wait to return for another weekend trip. The local restaurants and pubs are fantastic as well. We highly recommend this place. There is a bus that is next to Wallace's that takes you right into the center of the city. Honestly, this is the best place to stay in Edinburgh. We are recommending it to all of our friends in England and in the U.S. Wallace and his B&B definitely made our trip memorable and enjoyable.

I've just returned from a trip to Scotland that included a stay in Wallace's Arthouse in Leith, the old port section of Edinburgh that has lots of history as well as great restaurants like Martin Wishart. Wallace's rooms were comfortable, clean, and had all conveniences. Walace was most hospitable, but not at all intrusive. And breakfast was lavish, delicious, and healthful, not the usual "full Scottish breakfast." I've known Edinburgh well for over 20 years, and the Arthouse is my new first choice B&B.

Room Tip: Book early, there are only two rooms! And listen to Walace's advice about things to do in the ne...

Wallace was very welcoming and entertaining, taking time to sit with us and share a tipple. He was also generous with helping us out with a couple of services. The rooms are light and spacious. I enjoyed the artwork very much and the ambience. There's no other BB quite like Wallace's.
