My wife and I stayed here for two nights to attend a friend's wedding. The staff were friendly and very helpful, the room was very clean and the breakfast was nice. The hotel itself is quite small with only a handful of rooms, but this meant it was nice and quiet and we didn't once hear any other guests. Would happily stay again

I enjoyed my week's stay at the Northfield Guest House during Fringe this year. The bus was exceptionally handy (except for the fact that there is only one option for a bus). It is a bit far out of City Center, 15 minutes by bus, longer during evening rush and late at night after Tattoo and fringe shows but overall can't really complain, especially with the fab views of Arthur's Seat on the way into town. A couple of times the bar was noisy but it quieted down fairly quickly each night. Didn't try the restaurant, breakfast was fine. Nice people, very helpful and pleasant. I stayed in the single room which hasn't been updated yet but was still clean and comfortable. Best part, they did my laundry for no extra charge! Heaven. Also, for those who note there are not hairdryers in the rooms, all you had to do was ask for one and it would have been provided, that's what I did. I will probably stay here again, next trip in Edinburgh. Felt very safe, comfortable, and slept well. Good value, especially during festival season.

Stayed here for 1 night when in Edinburgh for a birthday party. Bus stop right outside to get into centre of Edinburgh or only 10-15mins in taxi. Hotel seems more focussed on bar and restaurant than being a hotel. Only a few rooms, all good size but pretty basic and a little run down. It was all very clean though and served the purpose for a 1 night stay. Breakfast was lovely, cant fault it. Staff all very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for a stop over for one night.
Good value for what we paid. Good size room, friendly staff and good breakfast.
On the edge of Edinburgh, to far to travel into centre of town.

My son & I stayed for one night while visiting Edinburgh University Open Day. On arrival the staff were friendly & welcoming. We stayed in Room 1, a twin room. This was reasonably equipped, very clean and comfortable. A few points worth noting:

The bathroom was on a different level to the bedroom, While we found this no problem, some people may not like having to go down stairs to the bathroom.

I wouldn't say that the water pressure from the basin tap was low, but the trickle that came out of it only just missed the back of the basin due to the low flow rate and the very short tap. In contrast the shower (electric) was good. We both liked the fact that they hadn't tried to squeeze in a bath, but had fitted a good sized shower cubicle instead.

The restaurant is "OK". "Steak pie" isn't actually a pie, it is the standard pub dish of meat and gravy with a lump of puff pastry on top. I can never decide if this is an acceptable definition of a pie. The chicken breast stuffed with haggis was again OK. It was moist, due to the haggis, but the haggis itself wasn't brilliant - we can get better south of the border!

If you want a hotel with a bar that serves real beer, don't bother with this one. Everything coming out the taps is pasteurised and pressurised.

Having been somewhat critical of the restaurant and bar, I must say that the hotel is very convenient very good for anyone travelling by car, with a good sized car park and very convenient bus stops just outside.

Overall, a reasonable place for a short visit.

The hotel is warm and welcoming, in a convenient location, with bus stop right outside. My room was light and spacious, with stacks of storage space. Evening meal was very enjoyable, with friendly staff, and breakfast was pretty generous too. Downside was the noise from the public bar on my first evening, which went on until about 10.30pm - it sounded a bit rough, though it did cease after that time. As I was in Edinburgh to attend the funeral of a close relative the next morning, I didn't sleep well, despite the very comfy bed. No hairdrier in room, no telephone, and a little note on how to operate the TV would be useful, as would little touches like a shower cap in the bathroom, and a box of tissues in the bedroom. On the whole, I enjoyed my stay at the Northfield House Hotel.

Room Tip: Only 4 bedrooms to choose from, so I would imagine they are all similar.

A very welcoming and friendly hotel which is located near to Mortonhall Crematorium. The service provided by the hotel owners was wonderful with a very friendly reception. We recently booked a funeral tea in the hotel and the service provided helped to ease us through the day and allowed us to relax with our friends and family. The consevatory area is spacious and well laid out. The buffet provided was complimented by many of the guests and overall it was an excellent choice of venue for this occassion.
