Booked in order to visit the zoo and to view the Pandas, stayed six nights in total, the room is very large and attractive with a pleasant outlook to a tree lined park. Quality of furnishing is very high, the bed excellent. Large bathroom with voluminous bath and excellent shower over. Hosts are friendly and attentive. The neighbourhood is quiet but a good range of shops and restraunts are within reasonable walking distance, busses are within 5 minutes walk and are frequent, reliable, comfortable and clean, also very reasonably priced.
I would readily return.
The Zoo is within easy reach either by taxi or bus and is well worth the visit. The city centre is also an easy bus ride away, the day passes on Lothian Busses are truly excellent, even getting you out to within striking distance of the Glen Kinchie distillery, (about 40 minutes from city centre)
For a straight forward dinner and drink I would recommend the "Kilted Pig" about 5 minute walk, friendly, Warm on a windy snowy night and an excellent Guiness! For a more adventurous meal the local Village will cover most tastes.

Room Tip: The Glen Turret is a fine and spacious room

On booking this hotel I discovered that you have to share a bathroom, they would accept no cancellation and their communications at the time were quite short and rude. They then charged my card despite cancelling the hotel as soon as it was obvious that the bathroom facilities were shared. If you want ensuite don't use this hotel.

What a shame that an error made by this guest herself has resulted in this negative review for our home! This guest did not stay with us - having realised the error she made (booking a non-ensuite room with a shared bathroom), she then cancelled her booking the day before arrival, despite being offered alternative ensuite accommodation as she requested. Our offer was refused with very short shrift and we were accused of not advertising the full details!

It is very important when making a booking to read all of the information on the booking site thoroughly before making a booking.

The website that the guest made the booking with couldn't be clearer when stating the facilities at our home on the very first page you come to:

"One room has a private bathroom with a roll-top bath and power shower, whilst 2 rooms share a shower room"

This is made clearer further when opening the next webpage for the room details before the booking is made:

"This room also shares a shower room that includes bathrobes and slippers.

Room Facilities: View, TV, Heating, Wooden / Parquet floor, Bathrobe, Shared Bathroom, Shared Toilet, Slippers, Tea/Coffee Maker, Electric Kettle"

This guest cancelled the booking the day before arrival and our cancellation policy, which is also on the same booking website, is also very clear and reads:

"Cancellation: If cancelled up to 14 days before date of arrival, 100 percent of the first night will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged".

All of this information is available on the website the guest made her booking with.

We stayed for 4 nights at this lovely house. We had glenmorangie room which is beautiful with unusual dark pink walls and antique furniture. it shares a bathroom but we never had to wait and it was kept so clean. The family have a few pets so i suspect if you have allergies it may not suit. there is a dog and cat and the children told us they also have gerbils! We heard the kids quite often but it was never annoying and infact it really enhanced our stay. we reallly felt like part of the family, it was lovely. we would for sure stay again when we come back to edinburgh. edinburgh is a great place to visit

Room Tip: glenmorangie is very nice

I stayed there with my partner in Glenturrent Suite, the room was awesome. Clean and really big and comfortable bed. We really appreciate the welcome tea, coffee and biscuits.
I really liked the area, so quite and safe, it is only 10 minutes by bus to the city centre.
It was like home from home, the owners are a lovely family with a nice dog.
Really thanks, our weekend in Edinburgh was perfect.

Very lovely room in a pleasant and peaceful street. Not the kind of place to come if you want to be waited on hand and foot but perfect for self sufficient people and families who desire somewhere beautiful to lay their heads that feels as private as your own home.
Lovely period decorations and renovations coupled with a grand, spacious bathroom and windows that seemed bigger than the room were a welcome change to the usual faceless hotel rooms. And after 6 hours travelling with a 3yr old the ability to neck some free sherry was a distinct bonus.

Had a lovely stay at merchiton gardens. We were greeted by Ross on our arrival who made us feel totally welcome and showed us to one of the best rooms we have stayed in.... it had a fantastic bathroom, the bedroom was really big and the bed was extremely comforable. we met the children in the morning when they were going to school: having just left our kids for a few days it was nice to chat to little ones again....We have already booked for next year at the same time.. it really has to be the best B&B we have stayed in and cant thank Ross & Lorna (and the kids) enough for making our stay a memorable one.....

We spent two nights in the Glenturret suite and the room was superb, especially for the money. Spacious, clean and looking over leafy gardens. Really beautiful place to wake up.

We enjoyed the walk in which took us 15/20 minutes and gave us chance to fine our feet.

We only met the owner once and he was really lovely and friendly and helped with any requests straight away. Ok breakfast not amazing, but still fine and there are cafes a short walk away as an alternative.

And from reading other reviews, hardly noticed the children were even there so definetly no disturbance from the children.

It's a lovely home and the room was a real pleasure to stay in. And compared to what you can get for the same money in the centre of Edinburgh I would choose this everytime.
