Reviewed December 3, 2013

Fist impression on entering ,dreadful thought I was in a hostel ,the reception area was untidy and dreary looking .A girl who seemed ti be the cleaner tried to locate the receptionist she came and we would have had to pay £10 for early check in ,it was after12 we declined .the whole area was depressing and smelled of stale food .We returned later and were given keys to room 5 .It was huge and also very cold with a very small heater on the wall ,we were freezing .thank god for Primark we had to go and buy thermal pyjamas .Cheap and cheerfully it was not ! The tv was postage stamp size and if you sat on the bed you would need binoculars to see it .We were booked for two nights but left after one .Dreadfull.

We are sorry to learn of your disappointment with your recent stay at our Edinburgh Haymarket hotel heather b. We do expect all areas of the hotel to be clean and tidy, including the reception area, corridors and lifts. We would like to apologise that you did not find this to be the case during your stay. Our standard check in time that is confirmed during booking is 3pm; early check in from 12 noon is available for a £10.00 charge. All of our heaters should be working, and we do have a number of spare blankets and duvets available from reception on a first come, first serve basis. We would like to take this opportunity to investigate the concerns that you have raised, please use the contact us button on our website to provide us with more information which will allow us to offer a resolution. Please also be sure to indicate that you have left a TripAdvisor review when doing so.

We stayed for 2 nights . Room ok but very cold regardless of the heater. Good breakfast and nice staff. Special mention to David who checked us in and attended to a couple of queries as well as sourcing lots of info for us following my query about the very grand building nearby. A credit to his company.
I'm the early hours of our 2nd night we discovered why the room was so cold. The very small window had lots of toilet tissue jammed into the frame to plug the obvious gap. It wasn't a sufficient fix but the hotel seemed unaware of this which does make me wonder when anyone had last pulled the net curtain back to clean the area around the window.
That said, great location and a good price. I'd not mind returning .

We chose this hotel because of its convenient location whilst we were staying in Edinburgh, and came away nothing but satisfied.

Haymarket Travelodge is in a convenient location, with many local shops (supermarkets open until 11pm every day of the week), restaurants, and convenient transport links - the train station and local bus services are minutes away though the town centre itself is only a 15-20 minute walk. Though slightly further out of the centre of Edinburgh than other branches, there is a homely feel at Haymarket, and the quiet street it is located on is away from all the busy traffic without losing any of that Edinburgh charm.

The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout our two-night stay. They gave us one of their largest rooms, which was enormous compared to rooms in other Travelodge's I've stayed at. It was warm, comfortable, clean and tidy. Despite having a limited number of staff on-site, they all did admirably well to make us comfortable. The well-decorated bar/restaurant was open to us all day long, whilst we were given the option to have our dinner brought up to our room if we wished.

There were no further attractions available to us on site, and the wi-fi is still quite expensive but that's a problem tied to Travelodge in general rather than this particular branch. You pay for a clean bed and bathroom - the basics - and really, anything else than that is a bonus, right down to the convenient location. On that basis, this is probably one of the best Travelodge's I've stayed in so far, and if I were to visit Edinburgh again I certainly wouldn't hesitate to reserve a room here.

A warm room, and a warm welcome from friendly helpful staff made my business stay in this magnificent characterful building a real pleasure. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and its convenient to Edinburgh airport and the city centre

2 night stay to celebrate my husbands birthday in October 2013 .On arrival the staff had decorated our extremely large family room with balloons, banners and chocs. FANTASTIC customer service! Room was modern, clean and beds very comfy. Hotel is centrally located within walking distance of attractions. We had booked the meal deals on line before arrival and the breakfast was very good, pastries, yogurts, cereals, full English etc. the evening meal was great value. 2 course and an alcoholic drink of choice for 10 pound each. much cheaper to book on line than the deals in the restaurant itself. Good quality food and the Oreo cake is to die for!!! All staff and manager are very customer focussed and welcoming.- A budget hotel with 5* service I would most certainly stay here again and recommend.

Room Tip: Book meal deals on line before you travel, much cheaper!!

This hotel was more than we expected, especially for the great price. We were very surprised by it's location being so close to the main shopping area and castle, just a 15 minute walk. The staff was very friendly. I believe his name was David who checked us in and was above and beyond helpful. My only critique would be that the door hinges need a bit of WD-40 as they creaked a bit and the bathroom door didn't close completely, but easily fixed by using a bundled up towel. Overall, it was exactly what we needed and a great stay.
