Dining options: Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast, Late Night, Reservations
Neighborhood: New Town
Description: Located in a back street 10 mins walk from Princes Street away from the tourist prices. Award winning Scottish food with French and Italian influences. Iglu is famous for using wonderful local produce, much of it being organic and bought directly from artisan producers. We are rated as one of the best places to eat Scottish food in Edinburgh - and there is pretty tough competition - most of the others charge a lot more! Our food has featured in the Michelin guide, we won gastropub of the year, best sunday lunch and many other awards! We think it is great honest food maximizing the flavours of the high quality produce.Cosy and relaxed Iglu is in the historic World Heritage Site Edinburgh New Town. There is a street level bar with real stone walls, Black Isle organic beers on tap (Iglu was the first place in Edinburgh to put them on tap)hand crafted Scottish oak tables and bar tops. There are Oak holders for glass Demijohns contaning hand made Scottish fruit liquers. You can eat in the bar which can seat twenty people here or in the dining room upstairs which seats up to thirty people.Service for us is important - we try and be there for you but not overly attentative. I hope you enjoy your time at Iglu - and tell the world about us! Charlie

Enjoyed a lovely family meal here recently on a beautiful sunny Edinburgh. Hidden away up a side street but well worth seeking out.The young lady running the place was excellent and very accommodating to meet our requirements and booking changes. Authentic good Scottish sourced organic food well cooked that left all of our party very happy with the wide range of food they had.
As an aside I had forgotten to bring my Gastro Pub voucher with me and the manager was trusting enough to let me send it to them on my return to Glasgow.
Iglu are making a highly laudable effort to source everything from within Scotland by end of 2013, I wish them every success.

We went for dinner, had a burger and the venison steak. Very tasty meat, fresh veg, a lot of attention to the sourcing of the ingredients. Very nice beer / ale too.

I am really surprised to hear the negative reviews. Each dish that our table ordered was perfect...love both of the haggis dishes that were offered. Meal was a great price. Everything fresh...aha. Even hubby who screams at organic food and Scottish food..much less both in the same restaurant...was as happy as a clam with his organic beer and spicy wings. Yummy!!! Service was stellar, and the waitress provided helpful information to us tourists, too...

Was looking for somewhere in Edinburgh for the Saturday night and Iglu popped up on Trip advisor. Duly phoned and they couldnt hve been more helpful as 2 of our party were going to be later. this was no problem. It does come under steak category but that night there wasn't steak on the menu which I think means it changes quite regularly.

3 of us had the mussels to start which were fab - plump and juicy with a white wine cream sauce - simple but tasty. Then followed by locally sourced lamb which was cooked to perfection, one had the beef casserole which filled a hungry husband! Iglu is trying hard to source locally and following a chat with our waitress she knew where the places were which is always encouraging and didn't have to ask anyone....

Would return in a flash

Arrived with my boyfriend and at first the service was very good. We both ordered the beef, 10 minutes later what can only be described as muck was presented to us. My boyfriends dinner was still frozen, and mine was literally a plate of potatoes and fat, topped in gravy with chunky carrots. We were advised the chef would ' heat this up for us' after we advised her it was stone cold and frozen in the middle. Stupidly we ordered something else, big mistake. Lamb was presented to us as tough as old boots, pink in the middle - almost raw, but so tough we couldn't even cut it.

To add insult to injury' the table next to us advised the waitress her chicken was 'raw' after the waitress came back from speaking to the chef, her response from the kitchen was classic 'the chef says that this is a vein, not raw' when the poor girl cut into another piece of her chicken, it was indeed raw and clearly not cooked.

This was the final straw and at this point we got our stuff and left. I think it's fair to say we will never ever be back. This guy should not be cooking food.
