Alas, I have to take exception with the other couple of reviews. We booked quite a few other castle hotels through Celtic Castles. They were wonderful. This property, however, is a disaster. Their website does not provide a true assessment. We arrived at the castle, were shown to our room, given a tour of the castle, then immediately left to find other accommodations. (1) There is a cat which has the run of hotel and my wife is highly allergic to cats. This is not indicated on the castle web site. (2) It was much colder inside the hotel than outside and the manager said that she would not turn on any heat until October. It was so damp inside our room that there was moisture and mildew on the inner walls. (3) Our room was very plain, merely a bed and table and bare walls.
This was an extreme disappointment as the castle website make it sound great. And as I mentioned earlier, other properties arranged by Celtic Castles were fantastic! However, if you want the experience of what it might have been like to stay in a castle several hundred years ago, then so be it. But if you're looking for elegant accommodations, or even acceptable accommodations, go elsewhere.
The best choice we made on our trip to Scotland. This castle is stunning, beautifully decorated, rich in history and very comfortable. Our hostess was very welcoming. Hot breakfast cooked for us each morning and served in the dining room. The property is also beautiful.... walking trails everywhere, flowers were all in bloom, a creek, wildlife and even fishing.
This is a virtualy unknown gem. An ancient real Scottish castle with English hosts !!
The rooms are authentic antiques not make believe tarted up just for Americans.
Amazing views fantastic hosts the west wing rooms are simply a delight. We have now visited several times and when up that way we look knowhere else.
And a breakfast cooked with eggs from hens in the garden...........
