Description: Situated within the Garden Centre this large Bakery Cafe presents delicious homemade food fast and efficiently. Worth reviewing. Hayes of Symington is a family firm that evolved from Hayes of Ambleside and the 8th generation is now very much involved. The Scottish "branch" started in May 1987 and although related to the Ambleside family it has no business or financial ties. The business ethic is to provide quality products at a constant fair price in pleasant surroundings and steady employment for approximately 40 local staff.

Lovely Garden centre with very pleasant staff and popular restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Restuarant is always very busy over lunchtime. Well stocked with indoor and outdoor plants and garden furniture. Shop is full of lovely items to browse and is gorgeous at Christmas time. Usually buy our family Christmas tree there. Toilets are really clean and pretty too!

I enjoy the soup at this coffee shop there is always a choice of two....but best of all they are home made and always delicious.

The sandwiches, scones, cakes and tray bakes are all delicious. There are healthy options but frankly I have never felt the desire to try them.

If I had a complaint it would be the seating....at the weekends it's just plain crowded, and given the tight layout that makes the experience less than pleasant.

We really enjoy popping into Hayes. The garden centre is nicely equipped, although on the small side. There is also an indoor selection of gardening products as well as a very nice gift shop.

The cafe offers the most delicious home cooked food and, as for the cakes....they are 'to die for'. Whatever your choice, you will find the portions generous and nicely presented.

This is a great venue for lunch and so convenient as my daughter has moved into a house just up the road. I used it three days running, while house sitting, for a quick soup lunch (you can have crusty bread or a home made cheese scone with it) Fatastic value @ £3.85. I had the tomato and roast red pepper, cream of chicken and asparagus and chicken and rice - they were hearty and delicious. You can also buy the soup in cartons to take home.
It does get very busy around 12 and like most of these garden centre cafes is self service. This should be slicker - that is a bit of feedback for Hayes. Not quite sure what the problem is, but could do bette in this regard.
If you are into cakes, the selection is fabulous! But they are enormous and diet busting.

Visit here quite regularly for a lunch treat. Very good selection of meals from bacon rolls to fresh sandwiches. I find the coffee is always good here. Try to go early as if you wait until noonish it's always busy.(so what does that tell you?) Excellent wee gift shop as well as a good garden centre. Just a good place to spend a few hours at ease. At Christmas time they always seem to put on an excellent grotto with decorations you don't find everywhere else. Great place for wee ones to look at the lights etc.. , as my nephew will tell you.
