We stayed at West Park for one night. It is clearly a student/ conference accommodation room and has a lot of 1980’s wood panelling but the room was very comfortable and clean. The grounds are also well maintained and staff helpful.
West Park is approx 20mins walk in to Dundee centre and there is a bus stop outside, however do check the times as they stop fairly early and there are very few on a Sunday. However a taxi from the town centre (train station) was only £4.50.
The hotel does have a restaurant and bar and whilst there are no other restaurants or pubs very close, we would recommend a walk down the Perth Road (towards town) where you will find a number of good restaurants, pubs and takeaways. We would definitely recommend the Drouthys Pub for food or just a drink, although be aware that most pubs stop serving after 8.00. Or if going into town try the Playwrights, in Tay Square.
Our only complaints about West Park were (1) the shower, this was so weak, that there was hardly enough water for a mouse to wash! and (2) the breakfast, the hotel was full and the staff were very disorganised so all of the hot food ran out at one time and took 10-15mins to be replaced. Despite these issues I would recommend West Park for good priced accommodation which is close to the city.
