We attend the Ship fairly regularly for a drink, but have not eaten in the restaurant since it changed hands quite a number of years ago. We decided to give it a go tonight and were really looking forward to it. We shared the pint of prawns as a starter but only eat a little of the Langoustines as they tasted gritty and the inside of the shells had a lot of water inside as if they had been previously frozen. My wife's Smokie salad was ok, but unfortunately my roast Silverside wasn't. The meat was really overcooked and dry like the roast beef from the deli counter. The roast potatoes were still hard and very dark like the oil needed changed and the carrots tested sweet like they were nearly off. The waitress didn't table check or we could have complained before the end. I didn't want to call her over as it was fairly busy and didn't want the other diners knowing. When we did tell her at the end the bill was reduced, but that's not what we were after. It's just a pity cause it's put us off going back for food.

11 of us dined. All were impressed. Cracking food and decent wine to boot. Sounds like I had the same meal as godonlyknows: agree the Stornaway black pud and scallop was a great starter. New Zealand Sauvignon blanc went down a treat. Must have had a bottle each. To be recommended.

Very limited choice, food was average and price was pretty high considering the standard of food. I will not be back in a hurry.

Had a terrific meal with friends at the Ship. The menu isn't the biggest but they do what they do very well. It's a lovely little restaurant and has a great feel. Nice wine list and very good service. We were a table of 8 and no one could find fault with their meal. Compared with some of the other local restaurants this is sooo much better.

We had booked for Sunday as it was very busy the last time we were in " The Ferry " when we couldn't get a table. Upstairs was very busy and once again service was very good. My wife and I both had fish and chips and, to be honest, we did not do them justice as we left quite a bit of the food......portions are massive. Our son had a rare steak which he devoured with gusto ( that's not a sauce ) prices are very reasonable and next time we're up there we will try again.
