“Has potential, but needs more work”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

I stayed here with my family for a short 2 night break in July 2012. We stayed in the lodge directly adjacent to the main reception area. Unlike a previous poster we were not troubled by any noise from this area, although i don't think there were any weddings on during our stay.

We found the lodge to be a good size, nicely decorated and with a nice veiw over the fishing pools and Golf Course. Like a previous reveiwer we found the cooker in the lodge to be next to useless and the shower screen that leaked water last year still does, causing a potential slip hazard. However i feel these are minor complaints, and could be easily fixed, which begs the question why haven't they.

The golf course was nice, although the weather was shocking, so we had to cut our game short. This is obviously not the fault of the complex, however some small shelters on the course would have assisted.

The fishing facilities were great and my daughters loved catching their first fish.

The complex would benefit greatly from it's own pool/spa/gym facilities. The guest pass for the nearby sports complex was nice, but not the same has having the facilitiest on site. Infact i felt a bit like an intruder at someone elses private club.

Overall i think it's a nice complex and great for a short stay. I would visit again, but think an onsite pool/spa would improve the complex no end. Attention should also be paid by the staff to the comments in the visitors books left in the lodges. There are issues that need addressed

Thank you for your review. I am delighted to hear that you were pleased with the size , view and decoration of the lodge. I am very sorry that we failed to pick up on a previous review regarding the cooker and shower screen and I have now put a procedure in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

I am delighted to hear that you would visit us again and I look forward to seeing you. I have noted your thoughts on pool/spa/gym facilities and will certainly keep this in mind for any future development of the resort.

Arrived on beautiful day, for wedding on 6th July2012.
Lodge was booked a year in advance, but we were asked to re-locate 2wks prior to arrival, (which we did agree to,) but not made aware just how far away we would be from rest of wedding guests. Also had to wait to enter despite the lodge being vacant.

Lodge was spacious but certainly not up to 4star condition.

Door locks were unpredictable ( fire risk)

No bathroom key, Shower cubicle was unclean, Electric towel rail cable was loose.

Oven was loose from its casing, Grill / pots and pans greasy.

Paintwork was grubby cobwebs eveywhere and dining chair ripped.

Some of these points are Health and Safety issues which we hope will be sorted before an accident happens.

Final straw was accidental spill of red wine over my outfit by inexperienced waiter (who was apologetic), however not a word of apology came from management despite being resident . When complaint was made they were disinterested and offhand , would appear that once money paid in advance they loose interest.

A good wedding spoilt , Still no apology.

We definately wont be back, or reccommend to any friends.

This resort is a new venture situated a mile back from Monifieth in rural angus. You drive in past executive housing arranged near the nine hole golf course well used by locals. The resort itself is a Bar/Restuarent/function room and guest accommadition in nearby chalets overlooking two trout lochs. There is a well equipted outdoor chidrens play area and the cairngorm putting green I think inspired by the hymalias of St Andrews,is fascinating to use espesialy if you are familiar with the typography of that area as it appears a scale model The staff are young and well trained there is a full menu of excellent food to choose

Just returned from staying at Glen Clova Lodge at Forbes of Kingennie. The accommodation was basically ok, however throughout the Guest Comments book, previous guests since 2009 had made comment to the fact that there was no mirror above the sink, it was over the toilet on the opposite wall, and no hooks on the bathroom door, It's just a shame that the management have not acted on previous feedback and made these alterations. My basic annoyance was that there was no broom or mop, and as the lodge had veneer floors, and a small doormat, all the outside rubbish walked in. The only method of cleaning was a dustpan and brush or the hoover !!!!! The approach to the lodge was mucky, the outside chairs were also the same. The Lodge lacked attention to detail. The smoke alarm went off when the toaster was used, not because you had burnt it, and if you boiled a saucepan of potatoes, it went off again. it was situated above the cooker. In the guest book, someone suggested covering it with plastic before cooking, not a good idea really.
The setting could be really nice, but the lack of attention to detail, let the lodge down.

Thank you for your review.
I am very sorry that we had not acted on previous comments in our guest book and I now have a system in place to ensure that these are checked regularly and the appropriate action is taken.
I am sorry to hear that the brush and mop were missing from the lodge and have spoken with the housekeeper to ensure that these are available in our lodges. I am currently looking to see if it would be possible to relocated the smoke detector.

Stayed in Glen Logie lodge for six nights while visiting family nearby in Dundee. On arrival we found complimentary cookies which went down very well (although you can't buy these from FoK?!), first impressions of the lodge were good, great size and excellent views over the pool towards the restaurant.
This would be five stars but for a few small items - we were disappointed with overall cleanliness - spiders webs on both balconies which had obviously been there a LONG time, dead and alive spiders and webs in each of the two bathrooms. In addition supply of basic items such as loo rolls (2 rolls in a lodge that sleeps six?), 1 bin bag, no coffee to be found but plenty of tea bags and sugar, bin emptied once over the course of the stay etc etc.

We've stayed in other lodges around this area which we would consider 5*, this would be the same but for the lack of some personal touches (and perhaps a hot-tub!!)

Thank you for your review, I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the cookies. I have discussed your points with the team and hopefully the next time you visit we will achieve that 5* rating from yourselves although we may not have the hot-tub!! Hope to see you again soon.

After comparing many possible venues to host our Ruby Anniversary Weekend, we decided on Forbes of Kingennie. From the first meetings with staff (a year in advance) we were confident that this was the ideal place for us. Luxurious lodges for our guests, sporting facilities to keep everyone occupied during the days and a very pleasant function room in which to hold our two evening parties.
Today, following our celebrations, we are pleasantly satisfied that having spending the last week at F.O.K., we made the right choice. Our friends and family all had a fantastic time. They enjoyed some "Silly" putting competitions; target golf at the driving range; 9 holes of golf on the excellent (fairly challenging) golf course; plenty of catches for the anglers and both adults and kids had fun in the Maze and tracking The Treasure Hunt around the grounds.
The food we were served at breakfast and in the evenings was excellent and some of us who remained there for the whole week ate frequently in their restaurant and enjoyed everything laid down in front of us.
The staff, throughout our whole stay, were amazing. Nothing was ever too much trouble and any concern quickly rectified. The Function Operations staff were efficient and friendly, the Administration and Managerial staff were experienced and attentive, the Kitchen, Restaurant and Bar staff were skilled, charming and obliging, the Sports Coordinators were professional and expert and the Lodge administrators and Housekeepers, accommodating and thorough in their duties. They made a spendid "team" and added to our whole week being "great fun"!
We have stayed in three of the lodges at Kingennie and they were all extremely comfortable, fitted with quality furnishings and very well equipped.
If there were to be any minor improvements in the lodges, we would suggest the addition of: hair-driers, a small shelf in the shower cubicles for toiletries and a hook on the back of all bathroom doors.
We thank all "the Team" for their concerted effort in making our "Weekend" memorable for all the right reasons and wish them all the best in the future. We plan to meet them again next year....and hopefully the next!

Room Tip: Most 6-person lodges have a double room en suite, a large twin room and a smaller twin room (single...
