This is the third time we have stayed here when we have been going to Scotland. We stayed a room on the top floor overlooking the high street. The room was big and spacious and a lovely big bathroom.

The only negative I could say was that there was a lot of noise from street, people shouting etc, but think it was due to fact we stopped on a Friday night, and at the end of the day you are staying in a pub. It wouldn't put us off returning, as it is such as fantastic spot.

We also ate in the pub on the night, I had a Vegetable Risotto with garlic bread and chips and my hubby had Steak with chips. I had the lemon meringue for dessert and he had the Snickers cake. We both really enjoyed the meals, the risotto especially was gorgeous!!!

The breakfast the next morning was lovely, plenty of food to fill us up before we started on driving.

We would definitely stay here again when returning to Scotland, and would recommend to others too!

Room Tip: Room facing the back of hotel might be better if staying on a Friday night like we did!!

This is the fifth time we have stayed here and we love this place.

Moffat

Lovely, quirky place. Seemed to be more shops, like a wee garden centre and a new tearoom. Really easy to find a parking space. Clean wee place

Hotel

The place doesn't look much from the outside and there's no reception desk or anything but you go into the bar area and a pleasant girl said she would show us to our room. However, having been here before, we knew the room. As it was gorgeous weather, we decided to sit in the beer garden for a couple of hours.

Room

Room 9 is just up the stairs at the entrance and has a separate living room with a sofa and a coffee table. There's also a wee kitchen area with kettle, loads of coffees, teas, sugars and a wee fridge with fresh milk and 2 bottles of water and a barrel of biscuits too.

The bedroom is lovely too with a very large en suite bathroom with walk in shower. Proper shower gels and soap provided too.

The only slight issue with this room is that there are 3 stairs to it and then 4 stairs once you open the door. If not that mobile, that could be an issue.

Food

We ate in the hotel both days. I had haddock and it was so nice, I had it both days!! My husband had steak and said it was lovely. The breakfasts are good, with plenty of choice. Again, only slight thing is that, if calling a breakfast a full Scottish, I would expect there to be potato scone, haggis and/or black pudding and square sausage BUT what you do get is 2 slices of bacon, 2 links, 2 fried eggs, mushrooms, tomato and beans and it's delicious!

Beer garden

As the weather was so good, we had the opportunity to sit out both days. If being picky, there was a broken table up against the wall which should have been moved I think and also the paintwork on the fence could be doing with being topped up. Also some new paving or something. Also, we are not a thin couple and the tables which have the seats attached aren't the best and are quite uncomfortable, even with all our padding.

However, again, there are beautiful flowers everywhere and so, all in all, it's nice and pleasant.

Staff

Staff all good, particularly Ewan, the young barman, who ran about doing lots of work.

Summary

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and looking forward to going back!!

Smashing place and smashing wee town

16 of us stayed 2 nights on a golfing weekend. The room was exceptionally clean, and believe it or not there was a small fridge in the room, with a jug of fresh milk, and a biscuit barrel with custard ceams and borbons.
The food was great, try the rib eye or the lamb. There was a good breakfast menu, and the service throughout our stay was first class.

Fantastic rooms. A lovely well planned and organised lounge area with a bedroom and bathroom. Excellent value for money.

We ate in the pub and my the roast lamb was delicious! Compliments to the chef.

Room Tip: Parking outside the Balmoral on the main road. Free Parking.

Booked a last minute overnight stay here, because the annual Moffat car show was on. We have eaten here loads of times (recommend the fish tea), but never stayed, as it has never really looked that inviting. However, how wrong we were, this was a fab stay at a fab price. The rooms are fantastic. We overlooked Moffat high street which was lovely. We had our own lounge with unlimited tea and coffee plus a full biscuit barrel! Flat screen TV's in both the lounge and bedroom. The place was spotless and it was nice to have standard sized toiletries. There was even his and her dressing gowns. The breakfast portions were big and perfectly cooked. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back. Well done Balmoral!

Room Tip: Recommend room 2. Also heard room 9 is fab too.
