“value for money”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Just back from an overnight in the Balmoral Hotel Moffat. We stayed in room 1 which was really clean and spacious. Room was warm, lovely bathroom...shower only....also had a small kitchen in the room with sink, kettle and small fridge, complimentary bottled water. Really nice touch. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful and tasty....all for £65 per room. Good value for money. Would stay again if visiting the area.

Room Tip: We were shown room number 2 and 9 both have separate living room and bedroom. Room 1 was more than a...

stay one night to break journey
this is more a inn than a hotel
the staff are very friendly and helpful
the bar meals were excellent and very good value and the breakfast was also very good
but the main reason i im reviewing this hotel is the room
stay in room 2 more of a apartment than a room seperate lounge and kitchen
bedroom en suite newly refurbished and decorated to high standard
two flat screen tvs one in each room the best room i have stayed in for the price

Room Tip: room 2 is superb book it

Travelling back from a long weekend in Fort William we decided to spend the night in Moffatt. My husband went into the hotel to ask if they had a double room available but he was told they did not but they would let us have one of the cottages at the back of the hotel for the price of a double room. It was brilliant. Clean, bright and quiet with lots of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bottled water, mints and biscuits I loved it. We eat in the hotel and had a wonderful steak dinner cooked to perfection. Breakfast was in the price and we had the full breakfast which was 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans toast fruit juice and we could have had cereal if we had wanted some. We've already decided that were going to book for a weekend in the summer. All of the staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful. Totally recommend this hotel.

Have just returned home after 3rd visit and glad to say that the Balomoral is still a great place to visit, again chose to stay in 1 of the converted stables. Some of the friendliest staff you could meet and make you feel very welcome. Excellent food at great prices. Will be returning in July for the Moffat Gala week

Room Tip: try and get a cottage at the rear of Hotel

We stop off at Moffat every time we travel to the Highlands. I keep promising myself to have a few days in Moffat, but the lure of the Highlands!!!

The Balmoral is excellent. rooms refurbished and well stocked with biscuits and Foxs Glacier mints.

You will not be disappointed with your stay. The staff could not do enough to accommodate.

Well worth a trip around the Town as well........very interesting graveyard.

Room Tip: They are mostly refurbished and have a lounge area.

We usually stop off at Moffat to break our trip and the bar lunches here are just the ticket. The bar at the Balmoral is almost in a time warp. It is very 1970s in decor and none the worse for it. None of the pseudo kitsch that modernised bars tend to offer.
The service is homely, the food is basic but really excellent value for money, big main course portions, well cooked and simply presented. A little more attention to the veg might lift this even further. We have never been disappointed here.
Moreover, the toilets are spotless, and the kitchen is visible from the hallway and is clean and tidy.
If you are on the M74 and looking for a stop, then pop into Moffat, it's better than the services at either Johnstonbridge or Gretna.
