We have just spent a fabulous overnight with friends here. The ambience of the hotel was warm and friendly helped by the cosy fires in both the lounge and dining room. The food was excellant and we were spoiled for choice with a very varied menu.I had never eaten wood pigeon or monk fish before and found them delicious. The sweets were to die for.The staff were delightful, pleasant and attended to our every need. Our bedroom was tastefully furnished with all the amenities that go to make a very comfortable stay.

We stayed for one night last week in order to break the journey on a trip up to Fort William for a family wedding.

We paid £149 for the night on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and were upgraded to room 7 on the top floor which is a four poster room.

The room was clean and comfortable and of above average size with a view over the garden and fields to the rear. The TV however was small and a little temperamental but we only watched it for a few minutes for the evening news. The bathroom was clean and all that we needed but a little dated.

Both the dinner and breakfast were of good quality and tasty, they were well cooked and came just as ordered and the steak was just perfect. Also a good selection of wines and drinks and at very reasonable prices for a hotel.

Checking in and out was easy and the staff were attentive and pleasant throughout.

Large free car park at the front and although the hotel is going through minor refurbishment at the moment on the ground floor, particularly in the corridor leading to the bar and restaurant, it did not detract from our stay.

Moffat is a nice town, but understandably quiet at this time of the year, and this hotel would make a good base for touring the area.

Overall we enjoyed the stay and would have no hesitation in staying again if we are ever in the area.

On arrival, we were met with a roaring fire, mulled wine and cream tea
Rooms were smart and warm, The staff though would be the top of our praises, {we had a member of our party with the dreaded winter bug} they were ceaseless in their efforts to make her comfortable,The food was excellent with 8 courses on new year eve after champagne and canapes in another comfortable lounge

Full marks to the Lawson family and their team

Had a first class dinner and overnight stay in this lovely hotel.
It was a very cold winter's night and the lit-up facade of the fine Georgian building was very welcoming. Even more so was the open log fire in the lounge. Dinner in the cosy conservatory was a treat and impeccably served by attentive but unobtrusive staff.
(I would highly recommend the rack of lamb).
The room was generously spacious, with every amenity. Breakfast was sumptuous, again in the lovely conservatory, and now we could appreciate the lovely view beyond the sprawling old oak tree in the garden.
Even if going a little out of your way, well worth travelling to and we will certainly be back.

We have had the most wonderful two day winter break at the Moffat House Hotel.Havng been badly let down by a hotel in N.Yorks.we returned home feeling very deflated but remebering a previous visit to the Moffat we made a last minute booking. We are absolutely delighted that we did.We arrived on a very cold frosty Scotish evening to a very warm welcome and a roaring log fire.We have enjoyed some wonderful food in relaxed comfortable surroundings an excellent range of malt whisky and a superb room with four poster bed and lovely bathroom. The hotel was very clean and comfortable throughout tastefully decorated for Christmas and the staff without exception couldnot have been more helpful, Moffat itself is a pretty little town very nicely decorated for Christmas with lovely gift shops and within easy reach of Dumfries,Glasgow and Edinburgh.Being extremely good value for money this quality hotel is well worth a visit, We certainly will again. Thanks to all at the Moffat House Hotel have a very Happy Christmas.

We broke our trip home from the Isle of Skye to Bicester at this hotel as it was about halfway and stayed on a reasonably quiet Wednesday night. It's an ideal hotel if you are looking for somewhere just off the M74, to stay and take the chance to see life off the motorway.

We pre-booked using Hotels.com and the price quoted to us was higher than the actual hotel would have charged - there's a lesson there.

The hotel certainly looks the part on the outside and the welcome we received when checking in helped to relax us after the stresses of a 5-hour drive.

In keeping with a lot of hotels the staff tended to wear many hats (receptionist, waiter, handyman etc) but here they were very attentive, friendly and efficient at whatever task they were doing. Indeed the one of the guys seemed to be doing everything except cook! Apologises to him for forgetting his name but I’d like to say that he made our stay very enjoyable.

Like some of the reviews here we found our room to be rather tired; the mattress was lumpy and could certainly do with replacing and the lack of hot water when we first got into the room (due to a known temperamental boiler) didn’t endear us. That said, the room was quiet, warm with a view of the Market Square. The hotel is at its best when serving food; we ate in the restaurant and the food was of a very good standard and good value for money. A top tip though; forego their breakfast and head over the road the café directly opposite where you’ll find a fantastic full fry-up at a really cheap price – it’s frequented by the locals so it must be doing something right!

All in the entire hotel was a decent place to stay midweek for the prices they are charging. Moffat is a nice market town and is immensely better than a motel.
