Small castle with restricted internal access , so not very time consuming . Not an attraction to deviate from your main route .

We were touring the area with our English Heritage cars - MacLellans is one of of a large number of sites available for us to visit as guests. Situated right next to the river and the town centre its location is good. The warden was informative and helpful. The remains are a very interesting place to visit.
The only negative point was choosing to visit at a time when essential repairs were being carried out. In spite of that a great visit.

The castle is situated in a beautiful area. It takes about 50 mins to walk around and it costs a small fee to get in but it is worth it. (Loved the little eavesdropping room). Worth a visit if in the area.

Really beautiful ruin but under a wee bit scaffolding for maintenance. The first time we seen it was during summer festivities and it was decked out with characters at the windows. Information plaques outside too but unfortunately it's been closed every time we visited. Will be returning in summer so hopefully see more then

The town of Kirkcudbright is absolutely beautiful and the castle is a must see sight there. You get a great deal of information about the castle and it’s history. Well worth a visit.
