We booked the king size room for nostalgia as we had stayed here the night before we were married. On arrival there was initially a mix up with the date i had booked to stay, whether it was an error on my part or not the owner could not have made us feel more welcome and even provided us with a complimentary box of chocolates to apologise for the mix up (which could possibly have been my own fault). The room was very clean and modern, the bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed and more. After a great nights sleep we had one of the best breakfasts we have ever had when staying in a B&B / Guest house / hotel. Even for the biggest appetite I am sure you will not be left wanting. Overall we had a very pleasant, welcoming experience and we will definately be visiting again. :)

We stayed at the Anvil View this last weekend for my daughters romantic wedding at Gretna Green. The guest house is a two minute walk to the Old Blacksmiths. We were warmly greeted by the owners Brenda and roy, who made us feel very welcome all weekend. My daughter and her husband stayed in the Cottage attached to the Guest House which was very well laid out. We stayed in the main building which has 3 guest rooms, one of which is the Bridal Suite. this guest house is exceptionally good value for money, very friendly and walking or 5 minute driving distance to the main event!!! Fabulous. Great Breakfast. Look forward to staying there again.

I booked up to the anvil on last-minute.com for a suprise night away for Valentine's. I booked the luxury room containing a four poster bed, large bathroom containing a Jacuzzi bath complete with tv to accompany it. First impressions of the place is it is just a large house but inside it is well presented. It's very clean, tidy and homely. We got welcomed by a gentleman who was doing repairs to the garden after recent storms who was very polite followed by greeting his wife who runs the hotel. She was also very pleasant and welcoming. Our room was very clean and well presented and came with a bottle of champagne and 'luxury' chocolates (Thorntons). The bed was comfortable and Jacuzzi was a brilliant especially being able to watch tv at the same time. The only negatives with the room I had was the toilet didn't flush very well, the tv in the bedroom could not receive itv yet had itv+1. The Jacuzzi tv pkicked everything up. Also the Wi-Fi signal was very poor. We enjoyed our stay there and the breakfast was lovely, with generous portions made to how you like it. Again the owners were very friendly with a bit of small talk suggesting places to visit. A very enjoyable nights stay, it's location is minutes away from a pub and a hotel/restaurant for food and drink. It is also directly opposite the famous blacksmiths shop. As good as it was I feel it was a little pricey, but being a special occasion I paid it but saying that it is a wedding hotspot and a very commercial area so prices may be slightly inflated. The room was great with some nice touches but just missed that final something to make it perfect. With that I would still recommend it.

We stayed here on the night of our wedding and it was perfect. We stayed in the deluxe room with lovely four poster bed which was beautiful. The bathroom was great with a jacuzzi and two lovely sinks. It felt like a real luxury because of the lovely decor and we wanted to stay longer! Can't comment on value for money as it was a present. As we drove up after the wedding we were worried about arriving so late but the owners were very welcoming and put our minds at ease on the journey up. Breakfast was tasty and very welcomed after a long night! :-)

We stayed here for our wedding, this guest hotel was just lovely and could not have picked a better place to stay. The room was very clean and perfect size. The owners were so helpful even giving me a lift into town to get my make up done for my wedding.
I would recommend this guest house to anyone and would defintely book again.

We stayed here for two nights for our Wedding and were very disappointed! Reading some of there reviews I think there must be two Anvil Hotels in Gretna! The welcome was half hearted. We had asked if we wanted a full Scottish breakfast in the morning and when we said no to Haggis and Black pudding we got a sarcastic 'oh you ARE English aren't you!! The room was tiny, the towels looked about a hundred years old and it was very basic. Breakfast on the first morning was very good but we were asked 'do you want your towels changing?? yes of course we do! Second morning was dreadful. It was like we didn't exist! We were not served in order for breakfast. The table that arrived after us were served first but the host came over to us with two plates shoving the breakfast at us saying' its yours its yours' I said we haven't ordered yet its not ours! Oh yes it is... then the lady behind said it was theirs and he turned around and said oh sorry to them...no apology to us! I ordered just poached egg, bacon and mushroom. There were 4 slices of mushroom when it eventually came and two slices of bacon that looked deep fried and were inedible!! we waited 10 mins to see if he would clear our plates so I could point this out but he cleared the other tables and never returned. When we checked out there was no mention of how was our stay or wedding........never again

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay fat the Anvil House for our Wedding. We stayed in the cottage which is a stunning accomodation with a beautiful sunroom overlooking the gardens which are delightfully illuminated at night. The cottage has a good sized & well equipped kitchen combined with an excellent 3 piece bathroom. The bed was warm and comfortable and all facilities were immaculately presented and clean. Our parents stayed in rooms in the main house, which again exceeded all our expectations. The included breakfast was awesome in quality and quantity.and representative of the value for money of the package. Nothing was too much trouble for the proprieters and we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Anvil View, especially if you are getting married at the Old Blacksmiths Shop, which is literally 2 minutes across the road.
Our whole wedding experience was undoubtedly enhanced by our stay.there.

Room Tip: The cottage has a well equipped kitchen which allows self catering and direct access to the garden v...
