Anvil View Guest House
Ranked #5 of 9 Gretna Green B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 21, 2012

We stayed here during our wedding at Gretna Green and received a wonderful and friendly welcome from Brenda and Roy-Our hosts were very helpful but not intrusive.
We stayed in the king size room and had plenty of space and comforts (we managed a sneak peek at the other rooms which were equally as lovely)
Bed was super comfy and the ensuite bathroom was lovely.
Breakfasts were cooked to perfection every morning and although we were the only couple staying at the time nothing was too much trouble, even our fussy vegetarian ways!
We would most happily stay here again when we next visit! The perfect location for a wedding at the Blacksmiths old shop as it was 'just across the road' which many b&b's in the area state but actually are not!

This B&B is situated almost opposite the Gretna Green Heritage Site/Visitor Attraction and about 1 mile from Gretna village and the retail outlets et al. It is next door but two or three to the Alvadene Hotel (sp) where we ate a reasonable meal in the evening.
Anvil View has several rooms on offer ranging from a standard double at £75 per couple B&B to £110 for the de luxe.We took the standard room. It was spotlessly clean, as is the whole place, reasonably well appointed with more than adequate facilities for a night or two. The bed was comfortable, there was tea /coffee/biscuits in the room, off street parking and a pleasant "wee" garden. The owners were friendly and helpful but unobtrusive, the best kind of hosts in my book.
Breakfast was served in a pleasant room on spotless white tablecloths and was cooked to perfection and punctually served. We forewent the offer of the "full Scottish" in favour of the full English (minus the haggis and black pudding) there are other options on request.
Were there any minus points? One small one beyond the remit of the owners. The traffic on the road running parallel can be noisy at times, particularly heavily laden lorries. The noise ceased later in the evening and was only intermittent.
Would I return? Certainly. Anvil View is well worth the money and we wouldn't hesitate to return there.

Room Tip: The rooms are all good it depends purely on what one is happy to pay

Absolutely agree with review from "Pink" The room itself was clean but very compact. A small double bed, a wardrobe-just enough storage space for a night or two. The window faces the road at the front with the Blacksmiths shop to the left. There was also a small dressing table with mirror, however with the small hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities there is very little room for much else and the mirror is very low down (below the lcd tv) so you’d need to sit on the stool if you wish to use it. There is also a small ensuite bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Owners accomodating as long as you want 8.30am for breakfast!

We booked the de-luxe room and were not disappointed in any way. We tend to try and stay at the cheaper end of the market normally (because we travel more than most): this time I decided to push the boat out a little and our two night stay was lovely in every aspect.

Within walking distance of everything within the village and easy to find with amble parking for the three letting rooms and apartment. A well kept garden is available to sit in if the weather is kind (it wasn't when we stayed): Brenda and Roy (the owners) freely give advice on anything local, from pubs and shops to tourist destinations

Great full, well cooked breakfast and a well appointed room to eat it in: our room was as advertised and the en-suite huge compared to our own at home or anything we'd normally have in our low cost hotel stays.

All in all an excellent stay and I higly recommend splashing out and having the best room.

We stayed here for two nights for our wedding. The guest house itself is lovely, very modern, welcoming and nicely decorated. The owners Brenda and Roy are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble and they really want to make sure you enjoy your stay. We stayed in the deluxe room which was lovely, the bathroom was a real treat as it had a spa bath and a touch screen TV in the bathroom, which added a special touch to our stay. The room had a 4 poster bed which was really comfortable and we had two wonderful nights sleep. The breakfasts were delicious and there was plenty of variety on offer, we highly reccommend the full Scottish breakfast. The B&B is in a good central location perfect for weddings or tourists on holiday, there are several pubs, shops and places to eat near by. We would reccommend this guest house to anyone staying in gretna, it is a real credit to Brenda and Roy and we cant thank them enough for the wonderful weekend we have had.

Room Tip: Choose the deluxe room, its a little bit more expensive but worth it for the bathroom.
