Situated in parkland, an hotel with a bit of an Agatha Christie feel....... a very quiet but pleasant atmosphere. Purpose was primarily golf as the course is at the front door. Enjoyed the peace and quiet. Moved to a top floor room after initial placing in a ground floor room which was somewhat dark with nets over the windows. Room was large and pleasant with a lovely view over the 15th. Whilst decor was a bit outdated it was a large well appointed room complete with a shower room and a separate bathroom and a comfortable seating area by the window. All staff most pleasant and helpful. Food had good choice, was well cooked and presented if service a little slow on occasions. Atmosphere in the dining room was very, very quiet and I did expect to see Miss Marple seated close by? Not really my style but quite charming.
The golf course was interesting....challenging on a couple of holes, doglegs and lake come to mind.....lost a few balls the first couple of days...water hazards and rough. Not on Golf GPS courses which added to the challenge! Came into its own when the sun appeared and you could see the attractive setting nestled in the gentle surrounding hills. Space provided to keep clubs and trolleys and dry off wet clothing.....essential to scottish golf. Did not use spa and pool facilities but looked OK. Other friendly golfers around and no problems with tee times as not too many golfers staying.
Buy the excellent Poachers Relish from nearby Gatehouse of Fleet! Will return for a short golf break.
