“Good hotel for golfing break.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2012

The spacious, well maintained room and the excellent spa were good places to relax after playing the golf course which was not short of challenges.
The atmosphere in the dining room and the quality of food and service were all very good.
Felt welcome and well cared for from the moment we entered.

We had a great time! Unlimited golf on an interesting course! We will definately go back for revenge! Hotel room was excellent! Food amazing and friendly staff. Pool, sauna and jacuzzi helped relieve the aches and pains of playing 36 holes in one day! It's not cheap but I would say worth the money.

We spent a three day break in late March, at a very reasonable £75 pppn for DB&B. The breakfasts are superb, as are the dinners (4 course plus coffee & petit fours). The wine selection is reasonable, with good quality wines from around £20. Bar prices are typical of many hotels and have become a bit steep compared to pub prices. I am sure many people have an aperitif in their own rooms before dining - I couldn't possibly comment!

Service is charming and efficient. The whole ambience is of a country house, rather than a 4*** business hotel. Free wi-fi is now provided in all rooms, but is public/unencrypted. It worked well.

There is a snooker table inside, plus a heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, saunas, and gym, all free to residents, and never busy. Outside, there is croquet, tennis pitch and putt, and of course, a free 18-hole golf course which is the main draw for many of the guests.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. It is situated in enormous grounds in a very beautiful part of Scotland.

Room Tip: Ask to have a room in the main building. The rooms facing the rear are sunnier in the mornings, but...

This hotel is set in beautiful grounds with a lake and golf course surrounding the hotel and Galloway forest walks from the hotel.
The staff did everything to make our stay enjoyable. The hotel is very traditional and the original features have been beautifully maintained.
Rooms large with everything you need and swimming pool and jacuzzi were super.
Meals were excellent especially the soups and sweets.
I will definitely go again if I can and book early to get a single room. There were cheap deals available for couples.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms are good, the staff will advise which rooms would suit elderly people.

My wife and I have just returned from a two night stay. We booked a de luxe room which was very large with great views and spotlessly clean. The only down side was the ratther old fashioned TV which we found difficult to operate. The large swimming pool and leisure facilites are excellent with the pool kept at a very comfortable temperature. Dinner on friday night was rather bland but service was excellent. Perhaps even a little too enthusiastic. Dinner on saturday night was far better slightly longer menu and more intersting choices. The public rooms throughout are large and very comfitable and the hotel is set in lovely grounds offering a range of walks without using the car. We took our greyhound with us who loved the hotel too! Without fail all members of staff were welcoming friendly and efficient. We would recormend this hotel as it represents excellent value for money.

We spent two nights there last weekend as part of a group which occupied the whole hotel, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The public rooms are huge, with gloriously decorated ceilings, traditional furnishings totally in keeping, and big family portraits hanging on the walls, so you get the sense of staying in the grand family home it once was. Our room happened to be the high one with the round window (61), with loads of space (it's really two rooms plus bathroom), a huge comfortable bed, and everything well-appointed and up-to-date.
The grounds are lovely, with the snowdrops still only just past their best; and the food was very good, presented in that prettified Masterchef way so you needed the side dish of potatoes and vegetables if you were hungry - that's not a criticism, that's just the fashionable way to present food!
Altogether very enjoyable, and we will certainly come back.

Just come back from a two night stay at the Cally Palace, Gatehouse of Fleet. The location of the hotel is stunning and great for touring Dumfries and Galloway. This is our fourth visit to the hotel. It is very traditional with excellent service and huge rooms and bathrooms. We always go in February as the snowdrops in the wood are spectacular. The food is super, both the breakfast and dinner. The hotel also has swimming facilities and lovely walks in the woods. Gatehouse of fleet is a small town and can be accessed by walking from the hotel. This is definetly one of our favourite hotels and we will be back next February unless we visit sooner. Thank you to all the staff.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building are very large and have good views both front and back.
