We were staying in this hotel for business meetings and a group of about 10 of us went to dinner in the Marco Pierre White restaurant there. It was awful. The waitress clearly did not want to be there. She was unhelpful and disinterested. She handed out two different menus to the guests at the table which made a mess of the entire ordering process (wine had been ordered to match items on a menu which we were then told was not even the right menu for the night). She made no attempt to give even the most basic apologies. Service was then slow and the food very disappointing when it arrived. Given that there were only 4 other customers in the restaurant that night there was no excuse for poor service. We spent much of the night making apologies to our guests for the poor service they were enduring.
This place is just terrible, eat somewhere else.

We have enjoyed staying at the Aston a few times but visited Wheelers restaurant for the first time. Dinner was part of the offer package we had booked at the hotel so it was exceptional value. Service was prompt, attentive and friendly. The restaurant is smart but not fussy. Nice linen tablecloths and napkins. The menu was surprisingly unfussy and tempting - it was a Sunday evening so you could have roast beef + yorkshire pudding etc. It was dinner for 2 and we were offered a variey of lovely flavoured little warm rolls before the starter. We had potted duck with chutney and the chicken salad - both really lovely and nicely presented. Then we had the fish and chips (light and delicious!) and chicken supreme on bubble and squeak with mushroom sauce - moist and tasty. The 2 courses were sufficient but was tempted by the rice pudding! We sat in the bar after - nice and quiet. It was a lovely relaxing evening.

Stayed here for a few nights when the World Senior Curling Championship was on. The hotel was busy and a friend who had booked separately was moved due to over booking. The reception staff were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The room was clean and fairly average but the bathroom was modern and the shower was excellent. Breakfast was a buffet and choices were adequate although a bit basic compared to other places I have been to. It has a self service toast machine which I really hate. They usually create queues and while you wait for your toast the rest of breakfast gets cold. The staff didn't explain the setup on our first day at breakfast and took a while to take tea and coffee order. They didn't clear the table either of cereal plates when these were finished with but overall it was ok, but could have been slicker. Second day tea and coffee were from flasks and third day back to taking orders at the table. A bit weird. Small things though and nothing to worry about. They may just have been struggling to manage because it was busy. The hotel is a little out of town but the setting is great and a walk round the grounds on a nice day is worth a half hour if you have time. We got a good deal so value for money was great. Lunch snacks were the only meal we had except breakfast and they wete nice but over priced a bit. I definitely would be happy to return and all in all not much was wrong and certainly could be fixed easily.

Luxurious hotel with great restaurant. t is close to the beautiful Crichton church, making it a great wedding venue. Good to pop in for coffee or book a celebration meal

Highly disappointed. With the name behind the wheelers, our expectations were fairly high. Gripes were we were given a photocopied a4 menu (food and wine), the starter I ordered wasn't available that night, hadn't been advised of this when we sat down, there were no wine coolers but were advised we would be topped up this didn't happen and I had to ask twice, no one checked our meals which were average and nothing startling. The pudding I opted for, sticky toffee, was burnt top and bottom and my husband didn't finish his pudding, box tree Eton mess. Food and service just not up to par. Maybe we were just unlucky and got a bad night but to be honest I won't be going back to find out.
