Tucked away in beautiful grounds away from the hustle and bustle but not that far into town center either, so great location. Beautiful building with gorgeous decor. Lovely and spacious room over looking the grounds and so peaceful, I had a great nights sleep. We checked in smoothly and found the staff nice and friendly and were happy to chat away when spoken to otherwise they left us in peace. The restaurant is very elegant, I really liked it and there is a small bar area too which was lovely. Prices were reasonable and I thought the menu was fantastic, hard to choose! The service was great and our food came out very quickly and was delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel and would love to go back again. Many thanks to all the staff at The Aston Hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a room over looking the grounds. We had a standard double and it was still very spacious wit...

My wife and I stayed here after buying an itison deal for 2 nights with dinner on the first night and breakfast both days. The value for money was excellent. I was surprised that the hotel was only 3 star as for whatever reason I thought it was a 4 star. The room was very clean, the shower was great, however the bed was a little hard for us. Just a personal thing though.
We had dinner in the Marco Pierre white restaurant. The food was very nice and well presented, the waiting staff were also very pleasant. Breakfast was also very good. The only downside to our stay was the hotel bar. We asked for a cocktail to which the barmaid said she couldn't make and they couldn't provide anyone as the restaurant was so busy. This was very disappointing. Advertising that you sell cocktails but your staff cannot make them when asked is unacceptable. We then asked for a gin and tonic, and were presented with a gin and tonic with no ice and no lime. Generally the bar area was dull and lacked atmosphere. We also noted we weren't the only ones who were not happy with the drinks. Clearly more bar staff are required at peak times and all bar staff should be able to make any drink behind the bar. Apart from this we enjoyed our stay.

Arriving at this hotel was such a surprise, we did not realise the vast area of the grounds. Checking in was very pleasurable, the receptionist was very informative as to tbe history of the old original part of the hotel which was previously a mental hospital. When we we had unpacked we had a lovely walk in the grounds which has beautiful japanese gardens a nd many other interesting buildings with plenty information rdgarding them. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Icing onthe cake was the newly opened marco pierre rest, the service and food was fantastic and reasonably priced too. Will be returning to this one for definatd!!!

This hotel is clean and comfortable.however I think there are a few things they need to address. Our room on arrival was freezing.we spoke to reception and they agreed immediately to put in a heater and told us there was a problem with the heating. If they knew this they should have put a heater in before we had to ask. The restaurant food is nice and the staff friendly, however it is understaffed. Guests are constantly left standing at the entrance waiting for assistance. As residents in a hotel I believe you should always be able to dine in the hotel, this was not the case in the Aston We were unable to make a booking for the second night of our stay . We were advised to try room service or go in to Dumfries. We spoke to other residents who shared our opinion that the service was shocking .

The hotel was ok mostly what one would expect. You cannot however book a table in the Marco Pierre White restaurant at reception or time of booking. The restaurant was busy and the staff could simply not cope. Wile the food was good it was a very poor eating experience. What a pity.

Sited next to the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Imfirmary this modern hotel offers very clean and well equipped rooms and a nice restaurant. There are no leisure facilities but it does have a good free wi-fi making it a good business stop over hotel.
Staff were helpful and polite.. I liked it.
