On a recent visit to Dumfries to attend a wedding my family and i booked three rooms at the Solway Gate. The rooms left a lot to be desired, the disabled room we requested had an extremely low bed, the shower was over the bath which made it impossible to use, there was no vanity mirror and the room smelled. The room i was given had a connecting door and i couldn't sleep due to loud snoring from the occupants next door. The door into my room looked as though it had been kicked in at some point and hadn't been re decorated, the walls were dirty and the whole room needed re done, no vanity mirror there either. The third room we had was not quite so bad, a vanity mirror was in this room. The standard of the linen was not good, sheets had stains and towels were not fresh. We paid £79 per night.

Room Tip: I couldn't recommend any of the three rooms I had.

Stayed here to break up a journey from Aberdeen down to Derbyshire after a holiday in Shetland - have stayed before so hoped standards would be the same - and they were.

Welcome on Reception was lovely and friendly. Rooms well maintained and very clean.

Good location if you're travelling around the area.

Had dinner at the Table Table next door - food was very nice and the waitress Amanda was lovely - a real benefit to the establishment.

Don't like to pay the amount asked for breakfasts at these places, especially as my husband doesn't eat too much at breakfast - so we drove down the road towards Dumfries and had a smaller, cheaper breakfast at the Morrisons which had a cafe - worth trying if you don't want to pay a lot for breakfast.

Would always stop there if travelling in the area.

My wife and I stayed over at the Premier Inn Solway Gate to split a long trip up to the Highlands.

+ The welcome was very warm and informative without being too formal.
+ The room was clean, and surprisingly large.
+ The surrounding areas were very tidy and looked to be kept well.
+ The beds were comfortable.
+ Bar area was nice with a decent range of 'Pub Grub'.
+ Check in and check out was easy with no faffing about.

+/- Although we had booked ahead, the restaurant staff seemed to have no knowledge of our prebooked table...........however, having said that, the staff managed to get us in 15 mins after our original time which was good.

- Food was OK but one of my pet hates reared its ugly head.....hard fried eggs!
- The evening was quite hot and we were unable to cool the room down using the 'in room' controls.

Stayed at this Premier Inn in June, staff friendly and the food in restaurant was very nice and good value, will use it again. Reception personnel have a good local knowledge and are keen to help. The fishcake I had for dinner was fab as was the scrambled egg at breakfast.

On a short trip on family business to Dumfries, we needed an overnight stay and accordingly, having had consistently good experiences of Premier Inn hotels in the past, we chose their hotel just on the outskirts of Dumfries. The stay was just as we expected - efficient friendly reception, a good-sized comfortable room, absolute cleanliness and a quiet environment to enable you to get a good night's sleep. The room's décor was, perhaps, in need of a little renovation, but as stated above, it was comfortable and spotlessly clean, as was the bathroom. We were recommended to dine in the conveniently adjacent TableTable restaurant but sadly, we were quite disappointed with the food which was bland and not at all appetising. We were certainly expecting better because we've used the TableTable restaurant chain on other occasions and must say that this is the first time we have not been completely satisfied with our meal. As a result, we didn't bother going for breakfast to the TableTable the following morning - once bitten, twice shy! In conclusion, the hotel we recommend but we advise you to give the restaurant a miss.

We stayed at premier Inn Dumfries for 4 nights from 20th June 2013 and it was brilliant. From check in at reception to the restaurant the staff were excellent. We went to Scotland to get married and looked at more expensive hotels near to our venue, Caerlaverock Castle, but I am so happy that we chose this one. The reception staff went above and beyond their role to make our stay a memorable one - even providing hair rollers and hair spray when on the day of my wedding I realised I had forgotten mine - truly excellent customer service. The room was cleaned daily and bed made up. Bathroom was spotless. The restaurant staff were equally welcoming and after initially booking breakfast only, we ended up eating breakfast, lunch and dinner there, such was the service. I cannot recommend this hotel and restaurant highly enough. They made our wedding visit all the more memorable with thoughtful touches such as a glass of champagne with strawberries during our wedding meal.
