The member of staff present when we visited was informative and eager to help. This museum has a very wide range of exhibits and they were all well presented. There was also 2 temporary exhibitions on, the one on the photography of tigers in 1920s India was particularly interesting.

This museum is well worth a visit and if you go on a clear day you will be able
to town with the Camera Obscura.
The staff are all very friendly and informative and made our visit most enjoyable.
Well done Dumfries. The museum was free and a small fee(£2 concession) for the Camera Obscura.

Very interesting few hours spent here and don't miss the Obscura, which has a good story about the history of the installation thrown in. The main exhibitions are free to enter and only a small charge for the Obscura, which was well worth it. Lots of interest info about local area and also the staff were pleasant and helpful. Point of note the camera obscura is in the top of an old mill and access for people with mobility problems would find the stairs difficult.

I visited with my husband, mainly to see the Camera Obscura, but the Museum itself is also really interesting and worth taking the time to have a good look round. It covers everything from the area's wildlife, to fashion, dairy farming and the weather so there is defintiely something to interest everyone.

The Camera Obscura has a (very) small fee but is well worth it, and also worth the climb up the spiral stairs! The guide was really knowledgable about the local area and gave us a great description of all that we were able to see.
