“Hunt the statues”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

Travelled by car and found most of the statues including John the Baptist in the small car park. Loved the standing figures by Henry Moore. Just a little disappointed there weren't more statues to find after travelling a fair distance to find them. Lovely idea.

“Surreal location for interesting art”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Liked the setting for the sculptures in a remote countryside. No plaques, information or other signage - they are just there! Make your own mind up what they represent. Some diificult to spot up on the hillside but all the more interesting for that.

“Little slice of paradise”

If you like outdoor sculpture, particularly Henry Moore then you won't be disappointed by the Glenkiln sculptures. You do need to come prepared with a map or guide (you can download from the internet) as the route is not way marked in any way.

“Middle of nowhere”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

Pencilled this walk in our itinerary after reading the route on a walking website.
Thankfully we printed the directions to find the place as it isn't signposted until you are almost there. Take the A75 west from Dumfries, the exit for Shawhead, turn right at the T-junction then left fork and left fork again. Parking for 3 or 4 cars is at the far end of the reservoir.
Some of the sculptures are a bit unusual but very nice.
The track is easy to follow, much of the route is on tarmac and apart from a very short wet section in a field is easy.
Allow about 1.5 - 2 hours to complete the route.
A lovely quiet scenic walk.

“Off the beaten track”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

I found out about those sculptures rather by accident and was glad I had directions (found on a blog somewhere I think) as this was not signposted at all. There was one rather scary moment on my way there when I found myself opposite a lorry on a narrow road, just about wide enough for one vehicle, with passing places.

It was well worth the visit though - a nice little walk with fabulous views across the glen with a number of sculptures thrown in for added interest. Walking the 5 miles should only take a couple of hours max but plan time to admire the views and to have a look at the sculptures.
