We picked the Glenaldor at random for a three night stay in Dumfries, what a great piece of luck that was.Easy to find and a short walk to town, parking right outside the front door, the location could not have been better.Owner and host David Showed us our room, very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean, also with a huge en suite. The house has been very tastefully decorated throughout with many original features retained,David also cooked one of the best breakfasts we,ve ever had.Overall, one of best b&b,s we,ve stayed in,great value for money ,great breakfast, and a very professional, efficient owner.Highly recommended.

We booked this at the last minute and got their family room which contained a double and single bed. This was very helpful as we are so used to sleeping in a 6-foot bed that we used them both! The bedroom was large and well decorated in an elegant and well-maintained Victorian house within a reasonable walking distance of the centre of Dumfries. The room was very quiet and restful with the usual ameneties. David the Proprietor was very friendly and helpful and cooked us a lovely breakfast. Very good value for money and we would stay again.

Glenaldor is fairly convenienent for a stroll into town and certainly easy enough to find on the map. The rooms are stylishly decorated and the furnishings compliment a wonderful building.
The bed was very comfortable, the place was very quiet and the cooked breakfast was great!
Mine host was welcoming but thereafter left us to ourselves which was just what we wanted.

Room Tip: Try to get a front facing room, for the better view.

Good value for money. Quiet location off the main road. Room clean and nicely decorated. The owner was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Only a couple of parking places in front of the guest house, but street parking is very close. Ordering breakfast was made easy, just fill in a tick sheet of food requirements and a time. The pedestrianised centre of Dumfies is approximately ten minutes walk away. We only stayed one night, but I would highly recommend this guest house.

The rooms, location, equipment, cleanliness could not be faulted .As with the breakfasts - however we both felt that guests were a necessary intrusion. Perhaps we caught David on a bad couple of days.

Room Tip: Our Super En-suite ( a twin) was not quite en-suite since the bathroom was next door and could be ac...

Firstly thankyou for the positive feed back on the rooms, location etc, however if you felt they were faultless I am unsure why you marked them down. Apologies if you felt I was on a couple of bad days however that was not the case and I recall having a good chat to you both mornings and telling you about the best places to eat and how to get to the camera obscura. I like to think that I always try to strike a nice balance of being there when needed but not being overly attentative therefore allowing our guests to relax and enjoy there time at the house and going by all previous reviews I feel I usually get it about right.
It is certainly not the case that guests are a necessary intrusion! We have worked hard at building up our reputation and although I enjoy meeting people the house is a business that we run to earn a living so guests being a necassary intrusion could not be further from the truth in fact the more guests the merrier!
Finally I note your room tip about room 3 and must say it is the first time in 3 years that we have had a negative response to the layout of this room. We only have 4 letting rooms in the house and each room has its own individual en-suite. The big plus for room 3 is that with the en-suite being next to the room it gives guests more privacy as opposed to having the toilet etc in the same room. To say other people can access the en-suite is incorrect as the outer door also locks giving the room and the en-suite total privacy. We have many regular guests ask for this room for the very reason that it is spacious and private and a lot of guests think it is like having a little studio as apposed to just one room.

Everything you want out of a B&B is provided in an excellent manner here. Great food, stunning room, excellent service and all at a very good price. They also have a lovely garden to sit and relax in. Parking was also very easy.

Glenaldor was a first rate guest house which greatly exceeded our expectations. The room was well decorated, large and bright. Owner is friendly and accommodating, and the overall overall piece is first rate. The experience of staying a Glenaldor was a real pleasure. Terrifice value for money and an excellent guest house. I would thoroughly recommend this guest house to anyone. In the morning the breakfast was hearty and very well cooked, a full scottish. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
