Just had lunch at the Moreig Hotel and can honestly say that this is the worst meal I have ever had. My husband had the starter of prawn cocktail and the bread was mouldy, then after waiting at least half an hour for the mains, my roast beef dinner was lukewarm, the roast beef was so tough I could hardly cut it, never mind eat it, the gravy was coloured water, the roast potatoes were tasteless, the carrots hard and the broccoli hadn't been drained so was sitting in its own water. Was really disappointed as been here before and have always found it good. Can only hope that this was an off day, but unfortunately won't be back.

Stayed recently for one night on a social visit to catch up with family. The hotel itself is nicely presented and the room was very clean. The tea tray, thankfully after a long hot journey, was well stocked and there was also bottled water available in the room. Unfortunately there were no toiletries in the bathroom (hand wash being dispensed via a Travelodge type squeezy dispenser, which feels a bit cheap) and having forgotten shampoo, it would have been useful so that I didn't have to go in search of a supermarket before heading out for the night, although to be fair, there's a Morrison's right around the corner. I dare say, had I asked at front desk, someone would have helped me out on that front.

Staff were really friendly and chatty and couldn't have done enough to ensure a comfortable stay. Breakfast service was a little erratic, I suspect due to lack of staff, and for us consisted of toast as we'd eaten too much the previous night. We weren't offered a choice of brown/white so ended up with two rounds of white toast. There did seem to be a dearth of juice due to the dining room being quite full and a palpable absence of staff, but when the (one) staff member did manage to come through with someone else's breakfast she was quick in topping up the empty jug.

In short, staff are lovely and helpful, the room clean and comfortable. Small issues could be improved by better staff planning from management (you know how many guests you're expecting, staff appropriately) and a small expenditure to avoid the 'budget hotel' feel in the bathroom. Perfectly lovely hotel for the price though, the staff, both front of house and cleaning, are a credit to the management.

We didn't stay here just went for an evening meal. Was extremely quiet so we thought it wouldn't be good but was the opposite it was very good - can't understand why it wasn't busy. Good food, friendly staff - worth a visit.

Stopped over at this hotel last night whilst cycling in the area and I was very impressed all round.
My son and I had a huge room with two very comfortable double beds. We didn't dine at the hotel but took a 10 minute stroll into the town centre.
Breakfast at the hotel was just about perfect, along with the bacon, sausage, eggs, etc we had black pudding AND haggis - delicious, The staff were lovely, the lady who made the breakfast had come in early to serve breakfast at 7.30 for some other guests, it's usually 8-9.30 on Sundays, so excellent service. Well done!
