Found this by chance. Came mountain biking with my son, the area is a very short drive from glentress and innerleithen. The cottage is well appointed and Jan and George are friendly, helpful and informative without ever intruding on your time. We have had a lovely time and look forward to being able to come again
We spent the the first week of July at Ploughman's Rest. The accommodation was very clean and tidy and was very well appointed. Ploughman's Rest is perfectly situated with easy access to Peebles, Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. There are many places of interest in the area and the area offers some fabulous walking/cycling opportunities. Nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly hosts. A very enjoyable stay.
The cottage is about 1 mile outside of Pebbles and 45 mins drive to Edinburgh. Perfectly situated to access Glentress and Innerleithen mountain bike trail centers and do a bit of sight seeing in Edinburgh to boot! I can highly recommend this cottage; clean, comfortable and very friendly service. We'll be staying here again!
All we wanted was a nice, relaxed weeks holiday in peaceful rural surroundings in a cottage to suit all the family. We were not disappointed. Upon arrival the lovely owner who lives on the farmstead nearby, greeted us with a quick tour and a welcome of wine and chocolates. A nice touch.
The cottage was spotlessly clean with all modern facilities including Freeview tv and wifi which for our teenage girls was guaranteed to put a smile on their faces. The kitchen facilities were perfect for self catering and everything else was just home from home. Comfy beds, heating and a great shower.
It was a perfect base for exploring the Tweed Valley and we enjoyed visits to Edinburgh, the Castle and Zoo (even managed to see the Pandas), North Berwick, the Seabird centre and Tantallon Castle, Peebles and Dryburgh Abbey. I even managed to fit in an afternoons trout fishing (day tickets available on the River Tweed and various stillwaters). There are many glorious beaches in the area too.
In all the Ploughmans was an excellent choice and great value. If I was to criticise anything then its got to be the great Scottish weather. I wish the booking form had an option for tick here for sunny days!

We stayed at the Ploughmans cottage for a week, the family gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home all week. The location is brilliant, a short distance outside of beautiful Peebles, a short drive to Edinburgh and a great base for the rest of the borders. They are also setup for mountain bikers with 2 of the 7 Stanes bike trails a few miles away.
We will definitely be returning in the future.
Excellent farm experience with lots of horses and sheep, my six year old had a ball. Owners were helpful and extremely lovely. I would highly recommend this cottage.
