Family day trip to Peebles booked table at Coltman's and Had 3 course lunch for two adults and a kid. Place is little but not crowded rather cosy and ambience music is a plus. We Were acknowledged and taken to our table immediately .Found great choice on food and drink menus. We ordered mussels with garlic and white wine, cream of leek and potato soup and sautéed woodland mushroom on toast as starters. Smoked haddock risotto with poached egg and cod fillet as main courses . Chocolate mouse and creme brûlée as desserts. All dishes were freshly made in house, honestly presented and hearty on flavours. Felt also very affordable. Can't possibly pick any negatives points. Go to Peebles, see the Tweed, st Parish church, walk the high street and eat at Coltman's. Great day out!

Called in to Coltman's on a wee day trip to Peebles from Glasgow today just for coffee and scones. The scones are perfect - crisp, fresh, buttery and big. The coffee is also excellent and came with home made biscotti. Great elevenses and really, truly good scones with efficient and friendly service. Will be back.

We came in for the new year special. We pre-warned that one of our party is Coeliac, and on arrival checked they knew. They responded by saying the set menu was fine except for one of the seven courses, and they had an alternate.
All was fine until course 6. The substitute at course 4 had been great. Then course. 6, the assiette de chocolat came out - but it was not gluten free and a very sour lemon sorbet with berries was given to the Coeliac. Next the coffee and petit-fours - again not gluten free but this time no alternate. So of the seven courses it turns out three are unsuitable not just the one they pre-declared, and one of the unsuitable ones has no substitute at all and the other has an unsuitable substitute.
When we complained there was a weak apology and no offer to put things right.
Overall that took the gloss of the evening and I personally would be very wary before bringing a Coeliac here again. Had they not messed this up they would have had 5 stars, but at £47.50 per head (plus drinks) for 6 people I expected service that met the price.

5 of us had a superb lunch at Colman's Deli and restaurant. The ambience, the service and the food were all top class. All of us had different menus and all of us had great food.
My 'woodland mushrooms on toast' as a starter was full of taste ,as was the 'risotto with naturally smoked fish with poached egg' was delightful and just the right amount.
The 'bitter chocolate with seasonal fruits' was a great way to end the meal.
All of us will be back-the service was very friendly and efficient, the staff who looked after us also looked after a party with small children without batting an eyelid!
Why can't eating out always be like this?

I like this place. Cant decide if the food is better here or at Osso at the other side of the high street.

I have been here a few times and have generally found the service to be quite unattentive. Nearly walked out last time, place was practically empty but it took almost 10 mins to even get attended to and then it was:- what would you like? A MENU PLEASE!

That apart the food bring me back every now and again but service needs to be better.
