“Delicious food, slow service”
Reviewed March 1, 2014 via mobile

Stopped in on a miserable day with my partner for lunch. The restaurant is in a lovely building which they desperately try to keep warm with real wood fires. I have been here several times now and the food has always been delicious. I tend to have the haddock risotto if it's on as it is always superb! My partner usually opts for the soup of the day and one of the variety of open sandwiches on offer. Always fresh and tasty.
However every time I have been the service has been frustratingly slow and seems rather inexperienced. Especially if the lovely front of house woman is not there, sorry I don't know the name but get the impression she may be the owner. But one woman can not be everywhere at once and when she isn't the service really is a let down. Even when the restaurant is full they never seem to be in much of a hurry. Perhaps that is part of the relaxed atmosphere of the place but I find it frustrating sitting with dirty dishes for up to twenty minutes at a time and waiting an age for coffees/ the bill. Even more when you see most other tables in the same boat.

To summarise the food is really delicious and the restaurant itself is beautiful. However I would like to see the service improve. Then it really would be an outstanding place to eat.

“Fresh food”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

Went with a couple of friends for lunch and then a walk round the gardens. Nice log fire to warm us up as it was cold outside. Different dishes on offer and a choice of open sandwiches which were very nice and freshly made. Bought some fresh baked rolls to take home.

Friendly and helpful staff.

“Attractively different”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

Quite ordinary estate building from the outside but nice relaxing old-world air inside. Interesting menu with unusual brunch dishes ahd delicious soups. The staff are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is a bit bland and the heating arrangements are not altogether efficient.

“Fabulous Brunch”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

Popped in after an early meander round the gardens and were offered the brunch menu. Everything was just right - croissants with excellent bacon and scrambled eggs, croissants with top notch smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, and beautiful blueberry pancakes with maple syrup for the little one.
