Stopped in on a miserable day with my partner for lunch. The restaurant is in a lovely building which they desperately try to keep warm with real wood fires. I have been here several times now and the food has always been delicious. I tend to have the haddock risotto if it's on as it is always superb! My partner usually opts for the soup of the day and one of the variety of open sandwiches on offer. Always fresh and tasty.
However every time I have been the service has been frustratingly slow and seems rather inexperienced. Especially if the lovely front of house woman is not there, sorry I don't know the name but get the impression she may be the owner. But one woman can not be everywhere at once and when she isn't the service really is a let down. Even when the restaurant is full they never seem to be in much of a hurry. Perhaps that is part of the relaxed atmosphere of the place but I find it frustrating sitting with dirty dishes for up to twenty minutes at a time and waiting an age for coffees/ the bill. Even more when you see most other tables in the same boat.
To summarise the food is really delicious and the restaurant itself is beautiful. However I would like to see the service improve. Then it really would be an outstanding place to eat.
