Went here on a Saturday afternoon on the way to a relaxing break at Stobo, food is light, fresh, seasonal and tasted very good. It appears to be the place to be on a Saturday for locals, and the busyness was possibly the reason why our table hadn't been wiped and we had to ask for a menu, and remind them we were waiting, but the food made up for this!

Wonderful, tasty and perfectly balanced food - with out doubt the best place I have eaten at for a long time. Bowl night is worth putting on the calender and should be a regular event in all our lives. Well done Val and her team.

After arranging to meet a friend in peebles, i quickly had a skim through trip advisor to see where would be good for some lunch. The Sunflower Restaurant was the first to come up and after a quick look through the menu on their website i decided it looked like a good choice. As they are only open a few hours each day, i sent them a quick email asking if i would need to book a table or if it was worth risking just showing up.
About an hour later, i got a reply advising to book a table as lunch can get very busy. So table promptly booked with no hassle.
Arriving in Peebles, we found the restaurant very easy to find as there was a sign post on the main street. Upon entering & seeing 2 tables, my first thought was oh this is a bit too cosy but what i didn't realise is that they have rooms off to either side that i hadn't initially noticed. We were promptly shown to our reserved seats in a cosy dining room and ordered drinks. The menu looked delicious and neither of us could decide what to have. The waitress was very helpful and all their dishes are offered in small or large plates which i thought was an excellent idea as they have an array of home baking that was yelling out to me to be tried.
The meal was beautiful and all the staff were friendly and inviting.
The table adjacent to us had a toddler with them who seemed very happy so it is suitable for families.
I think this will be my first stop for lunch every time i visit peebles in the future.

With the offer of a couple of hours of baby sitting we were keen to make the "right" decision when it came to where to eat. With the wealth of great restaurants in and around Edinburgh this was not an easy task!
The Sunflower Restaurant comes highly recommended and for good reason. From the moment you step inside you feel looked after and as my wife commented it was like being looked after by your mum (in a good way!) The menu concentrates on local meat and produce and the local producer responsible for each item is detailed on the bottom of the menu which was a nice touch. We noticed that most are very local, some even from Pebbles itself.
My Haddock Chowder was rather good with the potatoes cooked just right and the chowder the right side of creamy. My wife's selection of five salads was, she reported, really tasty with some excellent use of different flavours in the dressings. My main of a burger was served in a pitta rather than a conventional bun which worked well as a texture with the tomato relish and excellent fresh salad. My wife's Thai fish cakes seemed to disappear quickly and with very positive comment and the bite I managed to steal seemed to be very flavorsome. Whilst my wife's beetroot and chocolate cake was interesting the undoubted star of the show was the treacle tart with cranachan ice cream. The surprising addition of a "secret ingredient" created and warm and wintery dessert whilst still maintaining the lemony freshness that we both love in a good treacle tart.
All in all an excellent meal, good value and a worthy use of free babysitting. We would return again at the drop of a hat if we didn't live so far away!

This place really lived up to the TA reviews.

Restaurant is in a old house, so is 3 small rooms, decorated in a clean and casual style, very nice welcome from our server and cosy on the cold night we visited.

The owner does a lot of travel and this comes through in the food which is a mixture of different styles of cuisine. Really good focus on using fresh and local ingredients. The menu is small maybe 5 choices each for starter, main and dessert, but all the food sounded pretty nice. Price was reasonable for the quality of ingredients which was clearly all cooked from scratch. the home made bread was a real treat.

Had a lovely evening, the highlight of our trip to Peebles.
