A cold and wet evening outside but certainly not inside the very cosy bar at Burt's Hotel with its welcoming coal fire and extremely friendly and efficient staff. Our fish was just delicious and the House Claret most enjoyable - all at a very reasonable price indeed! Looking forward to our next visit to Melrose and Burt's Hotel.

We stayed at Burt's for three nights with the dinner, bed and breakfast offer. We had a lovely time and so did our dog Charlie! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful and beautifully presented. Due to our dog ,Charlie, we were unable to book one of the refurbished rooms
( which we totally understand and knew beforehand) , however, our room was clean and comfortable and we were very happy with it.
A lovely relaxing stay at a very friendly hotel. Thank you.

Myself and a friend dined at Burts Hotel on the evening of Saturday 8th February. We felt lucky to have found anywhere to eat at short notice let alone somewhere we could take our dog. Being vegetarian we get used to the usual token (boring) veggie options of mushroom stroganoff or pasta bake. Imagine our delight to find the option of vegetarian haggis, wrapped in filo parcels, beautifully presented with an imaginative selection of tasty vegetables. The meal was delicious and my only slight criticism would be that at £17.25 the cheapest bottle of wine was a bit expensive. Had there been a reasonably priced house wine I would have had no hesitation in giving this review an 'excellent'. The staff were friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was relaxed.

Stayed at Burts for one night - welcome was friendly, bar is cosy, clean room and comfy bed, breakfast was excellent with good service from the waiting staff but the room (Twin room no 21) was very disappointing (the decor and style being nothing like the images on the hotel and OTA booking website - tired old fashioned decor especially in the bathroom).

Room Tip: Not room 21 (tired / old fashioned decor - not boutique in style as per the images on the hotel webs...

This is a lovely find in a lovely part of Scotland. I stayed here on the winter DBB offer which is exceptional value for money. The single room I had was adequate, but rather dismal, with a well-worn feel, compared to the public areas of the hotel which are richly coloured and comfortable. I was here on business and the wifi is a bit patchy at times in the bedroom. However, the food is beautiful with enormous portions especially in the bar which had a roaring fire. The dining room is grand, beautiful linen and attention to detail, with fine dining a la carte. Excellent and kindly service in all parts of the hotel, front of house, waiting staff, housekeeping. This is a lovely area and so much to see and do, and although the town is chic and characterful, with Farrow and Ball colours, the prices are sensible with no pretentiousness.

Room Tip: If you are a single, consider upgrading to a double for a bit more room.

The hotel has been here for a while and the owners/staff do a wonderful job. Friendly. welcoming check in....with no wait. Rooms seem to have been recently updated, nice warm and earthy colours. All amenities, good lighting, storage and space. Very comfortable bed. Pity the sash-window didn't open. The locals know a good thing.....so the lounge/bar was full both nights for meals. We dined in the restaurant, which is nearer fine dining. Great room, full of atmosphere. Well presented food, good local ingredients. The highlight however, was Marion. Any budding Maitre'd should visit to see how it should be done. What a joy !!!!
Intermittent Wi-Fi was slightly annoying.
Great Value. Local residents and guests alike should be delighted to have such a fine establishment in the town of Melrose. The surrounding countryside and events make for a great weekend away.
