We dont normally stay in B&B's. After this experience I'm not sure why! Great rooms, fabulous hosts and great spot to explore from.

Normally I rabbit on about reception, location and room qualities. Well everything here compares with the 5 star hotels we normally stay in.

If you are looking for warm friendly comfortable surrroundings in this part of the Scottish Borders, then go no further.

We had a wonderful night here while walking in the Eildon Hills. This place is immaculate with a genuine charm and friendly feeling. Our hosts were helpful and nothign was too much trouble. The double ensuite room was cosy and furnished with high quality items. Our cooked breakfast set us up for the walking ahead. Thoroughly recommended, thank you.

A group of six of us stayed here on the night before we started walking St Cuthbert's Way and it was excellent. Beautifully presented & stylish property, large comfortable rooms, good powerful showers, a helpful & informative host and a high quality breakfast - what more could you ask for!

We were looking for a night away in the Borders with our young dog and were lucky enough to get in here due to a cancellation. Dave was very welcoming and room 1 is a spacious double with a large en-suite shower room which was ideal for us as there was plenty room to put us a travel cage for the dog. Breakfast was first class and overall the whole experience was highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room 1 good double with large showroom, very good if you've a dog with you and need extra space.

The best review I can give is to say that I could fault absolutely nothing about this place. Added to that I was travelling alone and Dave Fleming doesn't charge a supplement for single occupancy. I'd definitely stay there again and I'd recommend it to anyone. Absolutely excellent.

We had a lovely two days in Melrose, with nearby Abbotsford the highlight. Old Bank House, and owner Dave Fleming, contributed. The B&B is nicely decorated. The rooms are good sized, though ceilings slope down at one end because you are on the top floor with dormer windows. Bathrooms are also good sized, and spotless (good shower, plenty of hot water, no tub). Ceiling light was very feeble (about 10 watts?), but bedside lights are OK.

You do have to be able to negotiate two floors of stairs. All rooms are on the top floor and there is no lift. Suitable for the young and fit, or those who travel very light as we always have.

Dave is a lively character, and quite knowledgeable about the area -- attractions, restaurants, local events and the character of the community. (Don't start a discussion about Scottish independence with him unless you are prepared to invest some time in it. He is interesting and passionate on the subject.)

Until recently -- and when we booked -- the web site of the establishment stated: "The Old Bank House – Melrose can accept all types of credit cards, cheques or cash." This turned out not to be correct. I learned only at checkout that Dave wanted cash only. I had to go across the street to an ATM to get some more cash, incurring a $10 cash advance fee to do so. Not a lot of money, and Old Bank House is a very good value, but it was a significant annoyance to find that I'd booked on misinformation. I chose Old Bank House over another B&B in large part because I expected that I could pay with a credit card. Since an earlier review I posted, the web site has been revised, and now states: "The Old Bank House – Melrose can accept most types of payment. Contact us for more information." My suggestion is that, if you need to pay with a credit card, you do communicate with Dave when making a booking, and see whether he can accommodate that.

Four stars rather than five only because (a) there's no lift, and (b) the possible payment terms inconvenience.

Room Tip: There are three rooms. Room 1 (a double) faces north, and has an excellent view of nearby Melrose A...
