Popped into here on a recent visit to Hawick and what a lovely place. Had a few lagers and hubby and I shared a platter. Really good value, furnished out well and food was good. We returned on the evening and enjoyed our night. Being a lady I always rate places on how clean the loos are and I have to say these were lovely, huge and could of had a party in there. Staff were all lovely along with the locals. Will def be visiting again when we return.

Popped into the pub for lunch with my wife. There were several empty tables available. Every one we went to were VERY dirty. Dirty as in crumbs, food and sauce smeared all over them. The menus were in a similar state. It was pretty disgusting. Not very hygienic. The pub wasn't very busy so don't see where the problem was. We decided to leave and have lunch elsewhere.
It's not the first time it's been like that and people I know have commented on the same problem.
The pub was a superb place when it first opened, but it's gradually going downhill. They need to make a vast improvement before I make a return.

This is a large pub chain, but set in a beautifully restored old building in the town, it has become a good place to meet for all ages.
It has lots of space and young mums with babies and older folk tend to meet in the daytime for coffees and lunch, whereas the atmosphere changes later for bar suppers and people meeting for drinks and to watch sport on the side-screen tv. There are three or four areas/rooms so it has a cosy atmosphere, especially when log fires are lit in winter. Meals are good value, standard bar fare. When it opened, I was unenthusiastic about a chain pub 'spoiling' an old country town but it has been well thought out and is well worth a visit.

Opened in March/April 2011, the Bourtree is situated in Bourtree Place, just off the North end of the High Street. It's sandstone structure is very impressive and used to belong to the Conservative Club which has now moved premises. The building is divided into various sections and has various points of interest within. Two of the rooms is dedicated to some of Hawicks most famous characters namely Bill McLaren and Sir Chay Blyth, another room features Steve Hislop who was British Superbike Champion and also won the Isle of Man TT races on 11 occasions. The famous Hawick Common Riding also features heavily on the walls. All the furnishings are of nice quality and the bar is also very impressive. All the staff are extremely helpful and the range of real ales is very impressive. Within a year of opening they managed to get an entry into CAMRAs Good Beer Guide. During the summer months there is an outdoor seating area. Meals are pretty standard in a Wetherpoons, however the service is always pleasant, with staff eager to please. I've visited dozens of Wetherspoons throughout the UK, but this one tops the lot
