Great setting-up a long and winding driveway to a large mansion type house converted to a hotel. Very welcoming with very comfortable and relaxing lounge areas. Dining room is lovely with smashing views across a valley. Food in the restaurant was very good. Extensive breakfast menu and on this occasion cooked to order. Everywhere was clean and tidy.
Rooms 8,9 and 10 were a bit of a struggle to get to with winding corridors and several small flights of stairs. We had heavy baggage so it was a bit of a pain. Once that journey had been done I settled in to Avery nice stay. Room 9 was comfortable with lots of room and storage space. Bathroom was clean and the towels were thick and large. Had an over the bath electric shower and the bath etc we're on the old side but fine.. Linen crisp and clean but the mattress a wee bit lumpy in places but didn't disturb my sleep. All in all a very nice hotel and worth a visit. That said i wasn't paying the bill.

Stayed hete for 2 nights. lovely staff but seemed very inexperiencef in how to run a hotel especially the dining room. Dinner was nice but chips were soggy and no offer of replacement. Breakfast was a shambles with people waiting 45 mins for food. Rooms had lovely view but were tired looking with some furniture broken and needing replaced.
Needs experienced staff, a chef and a manager at busy times.
Not luxury as they describe themselves!

Last here 5 years ago, and the decor has been updated, and hotel looks far superior and very elegant now.
First class view from Dining Room, and A La Carte Menu excellent, but nearly £24.00 for a fillet steak is pricey even for this establishment. Starter of Haddock Soufflé at nearly £6.00 was ok, but a tiny portion and it had not risen as a soufflé should in its own ceramic pot.
Bar Menu, which our friends had looked far better in quantity and price.
Asked for a bottle of red wine, but was not asked which sort we would of liked, automatically brought us house wine to table, which we did accept but it would of been nice to of been asked. (Minor quibble)
2 lovely ladies looked after us, one was called Kirsty who was smashing, and very professional.

Have stayed a couple of times now and have enjoyed each stay. Menu although not extensive has a good selection and mostly well cooked and tasty. Great breakfast menu though I can only reccomend the poached eggs (perfectly cooked). Plenty of parking and rooms are clean with lots of character. On both occasions the bar was very quiet but the staff ensured that I had everything I needed and I did not feel either constantly bothered or ignored. Will ensure that I book this hotel when ever I am in the area.

We have just spent the last three days at this hotel. The staff were very helpful, the rooms were very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food was exceptionally good, we did not notice a Michelin star, but are sure it is pending. The décor is sumptuous, in keeping with the original building which was built in the 1870's. A wonderful experience, helped by the fantastic weather for the time of year. The Montys.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 7 so cannot comment on the others, it was certainly not noisy.

We have just returned from our first stay at the Mansfield House Hotel and found such high standards of cleanliness and service. We were welcomed at reception by Kirsty who went out her way to show us round the hotel and explain something of its history.
All staff we came in contact with over the two days we stayed showed this same level of helpfulness and friendliness, it was also noticed that there was no demarcation in the Mansfield and as a result we never waited more than minutes for any service at the bar, in the restaurant or for general enquiries, with all staff taking on the role that was required.
We were allocated room number 6, on the first floor, spacious with a walk in wardrobe and lovely views down the valley. Again like all areas in the hotel the room was spotless in every respect as was the en-suite bathroom, with its large fluffy white towels.
As it was out of the holiday season the hotel was quiet with only 10 or 12 guests staying and when booking for dinner we were offered the choice of the restaurant or the bar; we elected to eat in the bar on both nights although breakfast was only served in the restaurant. Just a word of warning check the breakfast menu before you order the full breakfast as it consisted of around 12 (twelve items) and we heard gasps from other guests when it was ordered for the first time. We found both the evening meal and the breakfast were of a good standard.
All around the interior of the hotel there were many very comfortable seating arrangements and a well laid out lounge with a huge selection of books available, The weather could have been kinder and this prevented us from having the opportunity to walk in the gardens, however the sections of the gardens we saw looked truly beautiful and I would hope to have a opportunity to check out the garden on my next visit. I must mention one last point for those who like a wee dram; there was a wonderful selection of malt whisky available and all reasonably priced.

We have stayed at the Mansfield House Hotel 4 times and wouldn't stay anywhere else in the Border region. Each stay has been wonderfully relaxing, very welcoming and the breakfast choice and quality is excellent. The hotel is very traditional but has a few modern touches which compliment it's overall feel. We can't wait for our next visit.
