We booked this cottage knowing it was a little secluded for some peace and we weren't disapointed.
The cottage is ideal for a couple looking for that get away from it all holiday, with charming country roads leading to the small community of the Isle of Seil. As is the case in the modern world though Oban is but a short drive away with pretty much all you need, including Tesco which is open till midnight. Local shops are to be found on Seil as is a pub not far from the cottage which serves home cooked food. Be warned though that almost every eating establishment has its last cover at 9 p.m. so late dining isn't really possible in this part of the world and the local pub stops serving food at 8 p.m.
The cottage was warm and welcoming and the beds comfy which gave us a good nights sleep and the sitting room was very comfortable. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, plus there appeared to be a good stock of consumables, such as cleaning materials.
The owner came and introduced herself and enquired if everying was to our liking.
Take time to explore Seil and you will be rewarded and don't forget to book a trip with Sealife adventures and you will get a 10% discount on the trip.

Looking forward to holiday on Seil, property very average, certainly would not describe as the previous reviewer as "amazing" just average- before arriving we tried to phone the owners to discuss entry of Alma cottage,(no prior arrangements were given) this was met with answer that they were out. Once we gained entry, sadly the property wore a smell of wet dog- not very inviting, discovering later that the previous guests had a dog, not only dog hairs on some soft furnishings but a used dog poo bag was left in drive near garage, and had been overlooked by owner before our imminent arrival. Gardens were rather overgrown and made the interior of the house a little dull, also found a dead rabbit round side path of the property which again may have been overlooked, as the rabbit appeared long dead, thankfully we didn't have young children with us, that may have been slightly traumatic. An odd sock was found behind the bathroom door- otherwise i would say the property was in ok condition, unfortunately we never had the pleasure of a personal welcome from owners. rather disappointing! However before it sounds i am on a post holiday rant, this property is ideal for families and couples alike with plenty space and equipped fully for your needs, but if its a view of the local rolling hills you require, think carefully. Customer service relations could be improved.

We were made so welcome and the cottage was wonderful especially the jacuzzi bath, ideal place to recharge yor batterie, plus lots of places of interest to visit. Even though near the road you couldn't hear any noise. The cottage was well equipped for all our needs.

The Isle of Seil is a delightful place. The scenery is beautiful. The atmosphere very relaxed. Our cottage was in mint condition and provided more than enough room for us and our 2yo daughter. It is situated half way between the great pub next to the 'bridge across the Atlantic' and the well stocked supermarket in Balvicar. Owner Jean came by to check if everything was okay and if we needed anything. Since cellphone coverage isn't '4 bars' all over the island we could use the landline in the cottage to contact her. We made a few lovely trips just touring the island (every nook and cranny) and also to the nearby Isle of Luing using the 5 minute ferry at Cuan. In a nutshell: It was great! The only thing we gave Jean into consideration was to put online better pictures of the cottage, because the ones we saw didn't do it justice!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Alma Cottage. It is ideally located on the Isle of Seil, with beautiful views just around the corner. The cottage itself has everything one would need: A modern kitchen, spacious living room with a fire place and an exciting garden for kids to play or just to sit out and enjoy weather. It has 2 large bedrooms and can sleep 4 comfortably. There is a pub called Tigh an Truish (house of trousers) just down the road, which has delicious, traditional food and weekly entertainment. There is also a supermarket close by for having cosy nights in by the fire. We often ventured into Oban which is only 20 minutes away and has great nightlife and lots of places to eat.
One of my favourite things about Seil was the incredible wildlife. One morning we got up early and were able to see otters down by the water just outside! Oh and if you decide to visit in the Autumn like we did, watch out for deer on the road, they are everywhere for the rut season! Sealife Adventures is a wildlife tour company that does amazing trips around the inner Hebridean islands and out to the Corryvrecken whirlpool. We were lucky enough to see bellowing deer, sea eagles, golden eagles, porpoises, dolphins and grey seals (and their fluffy white pups!!) during our time there! I honestly can't wait to come back in the summer to see the whales!
We stayed in Alma Cottage this Autumn and loved it! The cottage is spacious, really well equipped and has a great garden to explore. The kitchen is modern and has everything you could need, with a great log burner in the cosy living room. Keep some binoculars handy when you're on the second floor, we saw birds of prey and deer from the windows up there! Oban is only 20 minutes away and has tons of places to eat, but the island has two pubs and we ate in the one by the bridge a few times.
If you're into wildlife then Seil Island is a great place to stay. We saw otters, seals and a huge variety of seabirds from the island. If you visit the area make sure you take a wildllife cruise and a visit over to Mull too, these were the highlights of our trip! We saw sea eagles, golden eagles, lots of porpoise, seal pups and the start of the red deer rut.
We'll definitely stay in Alma cottage again if we're back in the area.
