Just back from a stay at Heathefield House .Excellent stay start to finish from you're bags getting carried in to taken to you're room. Stayed in room 2 quality through and through. Breakfast in the morning one of the best I've ever had. Home cooked tattie scones superb and Stornoway black pudding the smell of a pot of fresh coffee on you're table .Definitely will go back. Give it a go great experience.

Room Tip: Any one in the Heathefield House.

We stayed for just 1 night, on arrival we were greeted with a friendly face and a pot of tea and coffee. It was lovely and clean and the breakfast was excellent. The rooms were all done out clean and fresh, with tea/ coffee making facilities. Would defiantly stay here again. Wish the owners every success, they deserve it.

I stayed at Heatherfield house this last summer and couldn't have been happier and more surprised with the friendliness and amazing hospitality...particularly because I booked the room less than 24 hours in advance. I'm so glad I found this beautiful home. Its located close to town but in a quiet area and close to other lovely roads and parks to walk to. The owner told me they had recently sold the business but the deal hadn't closed yet. Assuming it has by now, I really hope the new owners maintain the same level of loveliness.

This was our penultimate stop for three nights on a railway journey around the highlands and it didn't disappoint.
I have read several of the reports and note the concern over late check in so I phoned to confirm our time of arrival. I was greeted with a very grateful voice thanking me for phoning so I didn't experience the problems other visitors had over check in.
A very pleasant reception on arrival from the owner who kindly carried our cases to the room.
Room 2: Room was very clean, bed comfy with some added touches such as biscuits and chocolate. Bathroom and toilet were in a separate 'room' very spacious and thought had definitely gone into providing high quality soap, shampoo etc.
My only minor criticism would be that there was only a hand held shower attached to the taps on the bath.
Breakfast was superb, as good as any 4/5* hotel great choice of fruit cereal and freshly cooked Scottish breakfast.
I was surprised that the owners would not store luggage after check out as we had several hours in Oban before leaving on the early afternoon train so it meant trawling luggage around the streets.
We were advised that there were facilities at the railway station to store luggage, unfortunately when we arrived the larger storage units hade been taken.
Maybe the new owners will reconsider this policy for next year.

Room Tip: Suggest a room overlooking the harbour, slightly more expensive but have walk in showers. Room2 is...

In all, this is a hard review to write. In so many ways Heatherfield House is a delight. The accommodations are posh and pampering down to the smallest detail. I want to say we had a delightful stay, but the overall feeling was inhospitable and we weren't sorry to leave.

First, there are a couple of things you should know: This house has rules. If you can't be there by 7, make sure you arrange a later arrival BEFORE you book. I thought this policy might aim to insure that rooms don't go unsold if guests are no-shows. When I contacted Sue after booking online to see if paying in full in advance would give us some flexibility in checking in later if needed (we were driving a distance), I got an email saying that "since they are not a hotel" they do not have a staff available at all hours, and they like to manage their personal obligations after 7. She also mentioned that she makes a point of greeting guests personally. Fair enough. We prefer a more personal approach than the average hotel.

Unfortunately, when we arrived at 5, Sue's "greeting" was decidedly perfunctory. She had basically shown us the room and explained the keys when she rushed off--because she heard someone else arriving. She spent fewer than ten minutes greeting us; and we never saw her again. Leaving the keys and a note would've been every bit as welcoming, and perhaps more informative.

A notice in the bath struck me as just plain odd. If you use whitening toothpaste or any other beauty product that could discolor their taupe bath towels, be prepared: if you bleach 'em, you've bought 'em. They are indeed nice towels (and there are spa-quality robes to match in the roomy closet), but really? White towels would avoid the problem altogether.

There were also instructions having to do with dragging the tea tray out of the closet and putting it on the small side table if you wanted to actually heat water.

There is nothing wrong with house rules, and I'm confident that every rule has a good reason behind it--but the winsome yellow duckies in the tub and the chickens pecking in the yard suggest a playfulness that is was not part of our experience, and we lacked basic information that would've made our stay more comfortable. (Common details, like the fact that some breakfast options needed to be ordered the night before somehow, or whether we were allowed to use their WiFi were never addressed in person or in writing, nor was there any guidance on where/whom to pay on check out.)

In the end, we saw our hostess for ten minutes when we arrived and our host for exactly as long as it took to settle the bill on departure. This was in sharp contrast to every other B&B, guest house, or inn we enjoyed during our trip (7 in all).

Despite that, I can say that the room we had (#3) is spacious, well-appointed, and very comfortable. The bath has plush linens, a toasty towel warmer, and a selection of organic toiletries from Purdies (the shop is just around the corner on George Street).

Parking--especially for an area this close to the heart of town--is good, and it's an easy stroll down Albert Street to shops, restaurants, and the distillery.

And the breakfast is excellent--even though a couple of items were off limits to us because we didn't know to order in advance, there is a very generous continental buffet and the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was first-rate. The dining room boasts crisp white linens, fresh flowers, and other small touches that felt luxurious.

As a bonus, the young woman who takes breakfast orders was delightfully friendly and funny--but she was the exception. The entire stay felt very impersonal, which undermined all the positives for us.

Room Tip: Room 3 is good-sized and very comfortable. The sea view is over rooftops--other posters have upload...

The room was an excellent size, lovely decorated, very clean. It had the nice little extras such as biscuits, organic shampoo, even a chocolate bar on the bed when you arrived. The breakfast was very well cooked and very flexible on how you would like your food cooked.
The owners were very chatty and helpful on local knowledge.
You can't fault this place as somewhere to stay,
