we have just returned from an "easy breaks" arranged holiday in the Regent Hotel. The strong point of the hotel is the staff. They were kind, helpful, and run off their feet. First, they had a lot to contend with. The hotel is falling to bits. Art Deco in design, perhaps, but not apparently modernised since. The windows still have metal frames. Freezing. Damp. The heating is totally inadequate. The staff provided us with nice warm blankets to drape round our shoulders as we sat in the only communal area - the bar. They also brought plug in electric heaters - one per table. Even went to the trouble of providing me with a hot water bottle. The walls covered in wood chip wall paper, and the floors with carpet which had holes, seams which gaped and quite dirty. Never once saw a hoover in action. The down stairs lady's toilet was not cleaned the three days we were there. When was the last time you were in a toilet which had obscenities drawn, and written on the lavatory door? Now they staff have to contend with all of this, but there was also a power cut when we were there, and the heating was negligible in the face of the storm level winds. The chef did the best he could with his limited budget. (We were paying very little for our break) and I believe you get what you pay for. The house wine, in my opinion, was "mingin" and undrinkable. When would you expect to go to Oban not get fish? Certainly no fresh fish. The power cut meant the lift was off. Our room was on he fourth floor, so we were given a room on the first floor. We saw right away that it was clean. That was when we realised how unclean our original room had been. Our train was cancelled so wee had to stay another night Now given all these conditions, i did not expect to pay MORE than the original easy-breaks deal. I would have expected some kind of discount. What surprised me was that other guests who were there on a bus tour thought the hotel was quite nice. It has put me right off the bus companies who use it, because if this is the standard of hotel they use, I am not going with them.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments on The Regent Hotel.
We were disappointed to read your comments and I will try and address each of them..
Your points regarding the communal area and carpet have now been rectified with all new carpets, wallpaper ,furniture and painting s/pictures .
With regards to your comments about hovering and toilet cleaning we clean both areas twice a day, first after check out times and then again during the night by our night porter.
As you mentioned there was a power cut and a storm which was at times very difficult to heat our larger areas ,this was at its worst 93mph winds and temperatures below -5, I will admit that we can struggle in the face of these very extreme conditions and this is why we sourced enough portable heaters to ensure every table could have one( when we had power ) , and also why the staff handed out blankets and in your case even brought their own hot water bottle ,all the while working in these extreme cold conditions .
I am sure this is a holiday you will want to forget due to the conditions however I feel the hotel and staff done everything they could and more .
I would like to also apologise for these issues as I’m sure it was far from an ideal situation
Thank you again

Stayed here with friends, nice room with a view over Oban bay... The hotel was busy over the weekend but didn't hamper our stay,a reasonable priced bar with friendly staff.... Entertainment at night was just "Devine" although he had run out of "Cash".. A great stay all round and will defiantly stay here again ... Great full Scottish breakfast to set us up for the day aheads events ... Absolutely no complaints ..... Good Job Regent Hotel .... Will be back..

6 of us took a Caledonian Travel trip on the 30th Oct.Coach pick up was on time although the driver was a little grumpy. The first stop was Inverary ,a .lovely wee place, then onto the Regent hotel,Check in was quick and friendly. Our room which were all next to each other were basic and clean, nice fluffy white towels and complimentary toiletries. The dinner was pretty early at 6pm but it was really nice and the staff great. The tables had Christmas crackers ,hats, party poppers, trumpets ,all the things you would expect at a Christmas party night. After dinner we waited for the party to begin and we waited and we waited and waited. At 8.30pm a wee man started to play an accordian,"speed bonny boat"and the like is not my,(or anyone else on the tours) idea of party music. He did play on until 10.30pm telling us as he had enjoyed himself so much he had given us an extra 1/2hr.Then that was it ,the "Party Night"was over.Breakfast the next morning was excellent and we left about 10am, with a stop in Calander on the way home.It was great value for money but was def.not as advertised a"Christmas Party. We are booked again on a Caledonian Tour in January,we hope for better things then.

Having just returned from a weekend at the Regent Hotel with a party of 12 when we arrived the location of the Hotel coudn't be any better looking out over Oban Bay now that was the only good thing about it.

We had booked the Christmas party night which didn't happen, first of all when we got our meal or if that is what you called it very very poor Quality and the staff didn't even clear our table we all ended up clearing it ourselves, and to make matters worse they closed the bar at 11pm.

Regarding the rooms which really need up dated our room the plaster was fallening of the walls along with the paper, the heating in the hallway wasn't workingand at the top of therlounge a guest was even trying to fix the heating, overall i certainly we certainly wont be going back to this hotel as it should really be a Hostal; and not a Hotel.

Room Tip: dont pick any there is better Hotels in Oban

I was sorry to read that your party did not enjoy their stay and that you found the food and rooms to a low standard, we have a maintenance program in place and have a improved kitchen team .
I hope that these changes will eliminate these issues in the future.
My apologies again for the problems you encountered .
