Great place to take photos as has fantastic views. You can walk up or take the car. It's quite a steep hill though.

Not hard to miss in Oban, as it overlooks the whole town
To get there unaided requires a 15 minute walk up some steep roads, often with oncoming traffic & no footpath.
Gives a wonderful view of the harbour and surrounding islands.

McCaigs Tower is not actually a tower. It's not a castle either. It's actually a circular wall.

You get a very nice view of Oban and beyond.

I'm now off to google what a structure like McCaigs Tower is called....

We drove to the car park by McCaig's Tower rather than walk up the hill! Just be careful as the residential streets are very narrow and the bends in the road are tight. The views are stunning - on a clear day you can see Kerrera, Mull, Lismore and Ardnamurchan. The attraction would benefit from signage informing of the history of the tower. Well worth a quick visit if in Oban.

mcCAIG'S TOWER was built by local businessman/banker,JOHN STUART McCAIG,during winter months only, from 1895-1902 using local masons who became"unemployed " seasonally.TheTower is an excellent prominent memorial of which his family can be very proud and offers excellent views over OBAN to the islands of MULL,LISMORE and KERRERA. well worth the effort to scale the steep hills on the approach or do as i did and take the car.
