“Wedding Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2007

I cannot recommend this B&B highly enough! I stayed there for three days over the weekend of my wedding. The owners Colin and Frances were delightful and could not have done more to make the weekend more special. The room (no 5) is faboulous with breathtaking views over the bay, the food was excellent and the property was imacculate. We had several of the wedding party staying at the property and every room was of the highest standard. But quite beyond that the personal welcome and care made this an outstanding place to stay. From decorated breakfast tables to a gift of champagne in the room everything was thought of including preparing an area of the gardens for photos before I left for the church!! It was like a home from home, fabulous!! This is an amazing place to stay and will make your time in Oban all the more special and I would strongly recommend this to anyone, especially stressed brides to be!!!!

Colin Davern and his wife Frances have truly made a house a home away from home for their guests. Our experience was wonderful for my family. Colin is not only knowledgeable and insightful of the area he is also some what of a local hero having played Rugby for the local team. If ever there was someone you could call upon as a gentleman he fits the bill and a great cook as well. We would return again and most assuredly rate this B and B very well.

We stayed at the Kilchrenan for three nights in room 10, on the top floor of the property. The room was clean, tastefully decorated and offered great views of the bay. Colin (owner) & his wife Frances could not have been more helpful during our stay. The breakfasts were lovely, all home cooked and there were specials offered everyday - all tasted delicious! We were in Oban for my sister's wedding and again, the owners went out of their way to make this even more of an event - taking photos of the bride/cars etc, decorating the breakfast table as a surprise. We also had a two & three year old with us and, amazingly, their every wish had been catered for, resulting in a remarkably stress-free experience! Having stayed in properties all over Scotland, I would give this great B&B full marks - the level of personal service and friendliness from all staff is second to none, rooms lovely ( my sister was in room 5 - beautiful ) and location is great too. A short stroll into Oban ( Colin & Frances only too happy to advise on local eateries), nice and peaceful and plenty of parking. All this was carried out without interfering with / bothering other guests. Other members of the family stayed at a nearby hotel & did not have nearly as nice a time - hurrah for the Kilchrenan - we will be back!

  • Liked — The welcome and the service
  • Disliked — ...having to leave after three lovely nights!

This B & B is in a great old house right on the water. It is within walking distance of everything in town. The owner Colin was most helpful in steering us to great restaurants and activities in town.

  • Liked — The helpfulness of Colin.
  • Disliked — The dining room area for breakfast was way too cramped, no room to move.

When booking, there was only one room available, a small double and this was clearly explained before I committed to the booking. On arrival, we were shown to this well decorated room, but as the hotel had had a cancellation, were able to upgrade to a sea view on the top floor.

This room was larger and finished to the same good standard, as was the integral bathroom. The hotel also has a pleasant lounge.

Breakfasts were good, freshly cooked and filling, the only disappointment being the very average 'sliced bread' toast, more noticeable because of the 'homemade' quality of the other ingredients.

Parking was readily available and the location means an easy stroll into Oban, but away from the main traffic areas.

What a fantastic Guest House this was, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to room no.7 (i think it was) at the Kilchrenan and what a beautiful room, absoloutley huge compared to our friends room on the top floor, with a huge bed, beautiful fireplace, and the bathroom had a gorgeous roll top bath where you could sit and admire the beautiful views over to the Isle of Mull. We would have been happy with any of the rooms for all the time we spent in them, we were out and about both days, eating and drinking! I would thoroughly recommend this guest house, the breakfasts were filling enough with a wide choice from a menu, and nothing was any trouble to them. As stated in previous posts the owner was more than happy to chat away to us and give his advice on where to eat etc. We stayed 2 nights and ate at a fab restaurant called Euesk on the Saturday, the men opted for the seafood platter for 2 at £60 which was fantastic value, the menu had a good choice and even although they had no note of our booking they still managed to get us a table. The sun was shining the whole weekend we stayed in Oban and would recommend driving thru Glencoe for the scenery alone. We stopped off in Balloch on our way home for a pub lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food.

  • Liked — Room No.7 . .or was it 5,cant remember now!!
