“Mixed Feelings about this One”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

We did only stay one night at Kilchrenan, but found both positives and negatives. Warm welcome, helped by a complimentary sherry or whisky, comfortable beds, nicely cooked breakfast with a very good choice. On the negative side, our room (one of those in the newer block) was a little small (but then we had, unfortunately, just come from 4 nights at a B&B with huge rooms, so were "conditioned"), tables were rather crammed into the breakfast room, and there was no lounge area as is sometimes the case. Gave the impression of squeezing as many guests in as possible, which was a pity. Superb position and very helpful hosts.

Very friendly host, helpful with any question you may have. The building is probably at the boundary of how big a B&B can get. But they're well organized and you don't notice the multitude of other guests. Everything is quiet and clean. Try to get a room in the new extension of the building, the standard of these is higher than anything I've seen in other B&Bs all over the country. Prices are reasonable.

Room Tip: Get a room in the new extension part of the building. When it comes to hotel rooms, newer is better.

We planned to stay for 3 nights but extended our stay for an extra night . The hospitality show to us by Colin and Frances and the rest of the staff was lovely and they could not have made us feel more welcome . We were in the extended part of the house and the room and bathroom were furnished to a excellent standard and spotlessly clean, The house is ideally situated within a pleasant waliking distance along the sea front to the town centre and the kayaking school. Breakfast more than filling to set you up for the day and don't miss out on the fruit and pankake breakfast when its on the menu . This was our first time on the West coast of Scotland and we loved it. Will definatley stop here again and would recomend. Excellent value for money

We stayed two (nonconsecutive, in two different rooms) nights here as we were also staying in Mull. The pancake breakfast special was the best breakfast I had in the 2.5 weeks we were in the UK. Amazing. The welcome whiskey or sherry, and the chocolates in the rooms were a nice touch. We stayed in a smaller room in the new addition, which was very nice with a nice bathroom. The second room had a water view, and was large with a lovely tub in the bathroom. The hostess prepared a take away breakfast for us (with no prior notice-so nice!) as we decided to take an early train. Would highly recommend!

This is an excellent guest house with wonderful views over Oban Bay, even when the weather is less than perfect. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and ready to give advice. Breakfast was very good and the room comfortable with a well-equipped bathroom and wonderful shower. We certainly hope to return.

As previous guestes have reported this guest house is ideally situated and the views over Oban Bay are fantastic. The owners are attentive and welcoming as are all the staff .The breakfasts are very good.
The downside unfortunately is that the secondary glazing units when fully closed and with the wind blowing are ineffective as they cause a howling sound. One secondary unit had to be lifted to alleviate this. This in turn allowed the draught to enter the room.
My main problem however was the mattress. Unfortunately, they do not last forever and this needs changing as it was well worn.
Overall I would suggest that the price is a little excessive. Fine if everything had been ok in the room but it was not.

We chose this B&B because of room 5, simple. Just look at their web site and you'll understand why.
When we arrived we were only staying for four nights, it ended up being seven !
Sherry or whisky as a welcome treat, a greeting by the owners that warmed us even more and when we were shown into our room the feeling that we were spot on with our internet choice.
What a room ! We can think of nothing bad or even remotely wrong about not only this room but the whole establishment, honestly it's brilliant !
The breakfasts are huge and well cooked with more if you want, the staff are there and on the ball, ready to please and always very attentive. The breakfast room is vibrant with everything in its place and immaculate.
The attention to detail is obvious, the decor is nice and the place certainly has character which is what we like.
We'd come up to look at areas to live and both Colin and Frances were extremely helpful and interested, giving us their time of day which was very nice indeed.
Like I said a four night stay became seven, simply because of their hospitality and a beautiful home.
Was our stay expensive ? Yes, but not much more than most of the others in the town but worth every extra penny and we'll certainly be back to soak it all up again.

Thank you.
