“Hogmanay special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

This year my husband and I spent the new year at the Manor House and what a special time we had, after having been told I had cancer earlier this year I really needed a break so my husband booked us into the Manor and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were made to feel at home, the staff were great, they could not do enough for us. My thanks to all the staff especially housekeeping how made us feel we were returning to a fresh room every day.

Room Tip: All rooms are perfect but for a special stay try room 4

We stayed here at the end of November as the final leg of a short break away and weren't disappointed.
Our welcome was warm and efficient. It was acold, damp day and we were ushered into the lounge for a drink in front of the fire while our room was checked - we had arrived earlier than planned.
Our room overlooked the bay and had a dual aspect. It was very clean and bright, with a comfortable bed and perfectly adequate other furnishing. The en suite was small but again, spotlessly clean and perfectly comfortable.
Dinner was delightful - a special function for 7, again served with an efficient light touch, with coffee and after dinner drinks served in the lounge. It was everything we'd hoped it would be.
After a comfortable night, breakfast was a typically Scottish affair - hearty and warm.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as a warm and welcoming place in part of Scotland where the climate can be neither warm nor welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view unless you enjoy looking out into a road and garden walls.

This hotel is conveniently located only a five-minute walk form the Caledonia-MacBrayne (check) Ferry. My room was small, but charming. Washcloths in the bathroom were welcome.

The dining room is as charming as the bedrooms. It appears to be a place where local, older couples come for special meals. I sensed the staff disapproved of my traveling solo, but perhaps I was mistaken. The food was edible, but not memorable. Because my ferry left at 8:30 in the morning and I had to be at the ferry 45 minutes in advance - too early to have breakfast in the dining room - the staff kindly offered to send up some fruit and dried cereal for breakfast, but I declined.

The Wifi was not working at all when I arrived. It went on during dinner, but was off again when I returned from an after-dinner walk. It didn't work for the remainder of my stay.

We were very concerned with your response as it was one of the weakest reviews in recent years.
Since your visit we have completely revamped our WIFI system with 3 nodes now providing excellent reception throughout the hotel. The problems with our service provider appear to have been straightened out and I think we should have a robust system going forward.
Thank you for your comment. I hope we will get a chance to serve you again.

It had been some years since we'd last stayed at the Manor House and we were hoping it would be as good as we both remembered. From the moment we walked through the front door we felt the glow from a wonderful Scottish welcome and the amiable atmosphere all hotels should have.
Our room, a double with fantastic loch view, was reasonably compact but with all the items necessary for a comfortable stay. The bathroom too was not over large but neither was it too small and all fittings perfectly suited our requirements.
The hotel has a lounge for guests and adjacent to the lounge is a bar and sitting area where bar lunches can be taken.
The dining room is cozy, intimate and welcoming and the food was very good indeed. Service was most efficient and conducted in an overtly friendly fashion perfectly suited to the rest of the hotel.
I've been trying to think of a down side and the only thing I can think of is; "we didn't stay long enough"... We had two wonderful days and nights there and it rekindled our memories of past visits to the Manor House and hopefully will remind us to visit again soon.

Room Tip: Loch view rooms are more expensive but the view is worth the money.

In a city without a lot of good hotels this is a great find. Its location is great and the food is excellent. The rooms are small but very clean. The view in the seaview rooms is great. It is also a good bargain. We would definitely stay there agin.

Room Tip: It is worth getting the seaview room if you are in your room at all.

If you are wanting something special then you have found the place. The view was amazing acroos the bay and to the opposite side where the main strip was. Large room, fresh fruit and great toiletries. Not to mention the chocolates found throughout all the common areas. If I lived in England this would be my favourite holiday destination and accommodation. Would love to stay there during winter. Cannot fault it, very romantic.

Room Tip: We stayed in a seaview superior room

We're regular visitors to the Oban area and were looking for a special place to celebrate my birthday at the end of July. We were delighted to discover that the hotel had re-opened after a fire earlier this year. Our room was fab - huge comfy bed, fresh flowers, fruit and luxurious toiletries - the view over Oban Bay from our window was the icing on the cake! The hotel has a warm, cosy 'country house' appeal and the staff were attentive and charming without being intrusive. We enjoyed an excellent meal in the atmospheric restaurant followed by coffee and liqueurs in the bar. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and delicious. A memorable birthday - hope to be back next year!

Room Tip: Worth the extra for a view of Oban Bay
